Samsung's new Galaxy S24 series will set the standard for flagship smartphones in 2024. As the launch approaches, three key decisions signal the future of the Samsung Galaxy.
These three important decisions are key specs, chipset choice and launch window...how the phone performs in everyday life, peak performance and when you can get it.
First the main features of the phone. Several networks around the world list model numbers and variants. So, if the Samsung Store doesn't have any last minute offers, your options are:
"Galaxy S24 will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory; Galaxy S24+ will have 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of internal memory; And the Galaxy S24 Ultra has 12GB of RAM. and 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of internal memory.
Over the past few months, the Galaxy S24 Ultra 16GB model has been spotted on various benchmarking sites. With only 12GB of RAM listed globally, the community is wondering what effect this low RAM level will have on performance.
If you want to talk performance, Samsung's decision on the Galaxy S24 series chipset is the big elephant in the room. Unlike the Galaxy S23 family, where all phones sold were powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, the Galaxy S24 family will be a combination of a modified Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy and Samsung's latest Exynos 2400 processor.
Exynos-powered Galaxy phones have traditionally had poor performance and battery life. It's not much, but it stands out, especially for premium-looking customers. To compensate, each high-end Galaxy S24 Ultra phone will have a Snapdragon chip, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will have a combination of Snapdragon and Exynos. Which model you'll get depends on the region you're in, and we're waiting on Samsung's distribution decision.
It finally has a launch date. While Samsung has yet to reveal any details about the next Galaxy Unpacked launch event, January 17th has long been tipped as the launch date for the Galaxy S24 family. Multiple sources have confirmed the December date. The latest information this week comes from well-known tipster Evan Blass, citing a marketing piece that lists a January 18 launch at 3 a.m. China time, a January 17 launch at 10 a.m. Pacific time, and a March 13 launch date. in time.
As Forbes' Jano McGregor points out, the article clearly states that "Galaxy AI is coming," which is perhaps the biggest sign yet that Samsung is on the way in 2024.
Update: Sunday 24 December. The early release of the next Galaxy S phones will affect the latest smartphones in the S23 family. The Galaxy S23 Fan Edition was announced in early October, but Samsung is already offering significant discounts on the phone.
Mihai Matei spoke about the last offer. Those who buy through Samsung's website will get $100 off the ticket price, making the 128GB model $529 and the 256GB model $589. Samsung offers rebates of up to $300 depending on which Samsung model you want to return (and Samsung will consider a number of competing phones, including the Google Pixel and Apple iPhones).
The Galaxy S23 FE is a good all-round smartphone. It does not strive for the best performance. it uses an Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the same combination as the Galaxy S22, but it appears to offer many of the same features as the Galaxy S at a lower price. Branding is key here, and using the S23 name alongside the regular S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra gives it a significant retail advantage.
Switching to the Samsung S24 brand will lose the advantage. Although it's not yet three months old, it makes sense to take advantage of the discount now and encourage as many consumers as possible about the Galaxy ecosystem.
Update: Monday 25 December. The camera is one of the permanent features of the smartphone. New hardware and software will be reviewed after the phone is released. Samsung is improving the camera quality of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Writing for SamMobile,Adrian Faruqi has collected leaked images of the new camera modulesahead of their arrival in the premium phone, and the hardware lines up well with what we already know about the quad-lens main camera, especially the fact that it will be. 200MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, 10MP telephoto and 50MP telephoto camera.
Last year, the Galaxy S23 Ultra scored a very high DXOMark of 140 points, although some areas for improvement were noted. These include zoom results that fall slightly behind competitors, relatively high noise levels, poor white balance in low light, and low contrast on backlit subjects. We hope these areas are explored in our review of the S24 Ultra.
