The Samsung Galaxy Store Finally Has A Themed Material You Icon
Finally, the dynamic theme
Samsung kicked off February on a high note with the launch of the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra. After this big Unpacked event, we also see some older Samsung phones in the news, mainly to improve the user experience and improve the updates, such as the certification of the Google ARCore developer team. Another relatively minor update rolling out to all Samsung phones is themed icons for the Samsung Galaxy Store app.
Samsung's transition to dynamic icons for default Material You apps began last year. The latest to join the list of updated apps is the Galaxy Store. SamMobile reports that people using version 6.6.09.62 of the app are seeing a new Galaxy Store icon. The outgoing icon is a white shopping bag icon on a warm pink background, and the new icon dynamically changes the background color based on the active background.
You can open the Galaxy Store app and to check for updates, it should bring you the latest app icon. Additionally, users reported that they were lucky enough to manually change the system date to February 7, 2023 to enable the new Galaxy Store icon. However, it didn't work for us on the Galaxy S10 Lite, and we don't see Galaxy Store updates on other devices either. This behavior is typical for rolling out updates in stages.
It's been over two years since Google introduced Material You as part of its Material Design language. It is an updated version of the original Material Design and focuses on personalization. While it has been long overdue for Samsung to update the default app icons for Galaxy devices, now users can enjoy a new and attractive home screen app. The move brings Samsung users closer to the idea of Google's ultimate physical experience, which is currently limited to Pixel phones.
The company may have been slow to switch its apps to dynamic Material You icons, but we can't blame Samsung for regular and speedy Android 13 updates throughout 2022. Next year, Samsung says that it will not improve and update its users anymore. Android 14 faster. Fortunately, code serialization is part of Samsung's plan.
