Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Ozuna calls 2023 his year. With a new album, a live album out today and an arena tour starting this summer, there's plenty to talk about.

"I'm going to have a lot of challenges this year, a lot of new things," Ozuna told Variety over the phone. "But I like a challenge and I'm at a stage in my career where I have the energy to really push myself. There are many goals I want to achieve."

The chart leader is running out of time and embarks on a new European tour, which will begin in May and last until the end of the summer. It will make stops in cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas and Miami, including European stops in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris and more before concluding in Tarev Echo, Spain on August 5th. (see the full program below). Tickets go on sale March 3, with more details to be announced shortly.

"Right now we're working on the production, we're just figuring out the little details that make these specials," he says. “Right now all I can think about is 'practice makes perfect'.

Also with this announcement comes Ozu Vivo, a 16-song live album on its Sony Music imprint Aura Music. The compilation includes 13 live performances from a 2020 concert in the Dominican Republic and three acoustic versions of songs released after 2020 ("Del Mar", "Caramelo" and "Despeinada").

Though he admits making a live album is a difficult endeavor, his team makes a habit of regularly recording audio clips of Ozuna's live performances because he often asks to "become a better live performer," says he.

He continues: "I grew up listening to a lot of live records like Bario Fino and Directo Daddy Yankee and The Last Don Live [by Don Omar] - I feel like a lot of people don't make live records so this is a big one win for me.

Ozuna chose to perform in the Dominican Republic in 2020, a pre-pandemic show that drew more than 60,000 people because "it holds a special place in my heart — we filmed it, we recorded the music, and now the people." , which they missed, will be able to have fun with us."

He's also begun announcing the release of a new album of original music that "explores what Reggaeton is at its core, mixed with Afro and other beats," he says. “I also devote more time to writing a new album on my own. I guess early in my career I didn't really give myself time to sit down and write. People liked it when I did in the past."

The artist also found more business opportunities this year. He recently attended the 2022 FIFA World Cup and teamed up with 1800 Tequila to perform to a raucous Super Bowl crowd on the day of the big game.

Ozuna was also recently announced as the new ambassador for the tequila brand, which has also collaborated with Kali Uchis, Koji Radikal, Rick Ross and many others.

"The way I see it, I'm my brand... and this partnership with 1800 Tequila is another step in the right direction," he says. “In everything I do, I always have art in mind. This partnership has been a great opportunity for me and I've been treated with a lot of respect by the people on this team and I think my fans will benefit from it - that's the best part.

And when he's not sipping his favorite cocktail (it's straight tequila with salt and lemon ), Ozuna is busy advancing the careers of other artists in collaboration with his own label, Aura Music, and his manager Vicente Saavedra's Dímelo Vi label. Home to up-and-coming bands like trap rapper Lenny Tavares.

"I've been fortunate to have a team that has motivated me to grow from day one - and I think people are going to really feel and embrace the energy of the new music and anything we put out," he concludes . . "It is truly a year of blessings."
