Vivo X90 Series Released: New Contenders For Best Camera Phone

Vivo has steadily upped its camera game over the past few years and the X80 Pro in particular is one of the best camera phones of 2022. Now the company has released the X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro Plus.

All three phones look very similar, with Oreo leather backs and cameras. All three devices have a left-to-right metal band on the back with the rather noticeable "Xtreme Imagination" branding. These devices also come in black and red, although the vanilla X90 also comes in blue.

The Vivo phones also share some common traits such as the 32-megapixel mid-notch camera, a dedicated V2 imaging chip, Zeiss T* anti-glare coating for the cameras, Origin OS 3 on Android 13, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3. .

Vivo X90 Pro Plus: the premium alternative

The Pro Plus model is definitely the top model. It's the only phone in the series to use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which also packs a 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED display (3200 x 1440, E6), a 4,700mAh battery, 80 W wired charging and 50W wireless speed offers.

We also see some interesting camera upgrades here. The Pro Plus includes a 50MP IMX989 main camera, a 50MP IMX758 camera with 2x Portrait mode (albeit with a fixed focus), a 64MP periscope camera with 3.5x zoom and a 48-MP MP wide-angle camera (114° field of view). All wide-angle camera sensors also offer optical image stabilization.

However, the camera is not limited to hardware. Vivo claims the X90 Pro Plus supports manual astrophotography, a tilt-shift mode called Miniature Blur, a horizon correction feature for capturing skyscrapers and other tall buildings, a single-lens portrait mode, and the ability to freeze objects in low light.

Standard and Professional phones

Are you looking for something cheaper? This is where the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro come in. Both devices have a Mediatek Dimensity 9200 processor, 120W wired charging, a 6.78-inch OLED panel (2800x1260) at 120Hz and an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

However, there are many differences between the two models. The X90 Pro comes with a 4,870mAh battery, 50W wireless charging, and an IP68 rating, while the standard device comes with a 4,810mAh battery, no wireless charging, and an IP64 rating.

These differences also apply to cameras. The Pro model still retains the Pro Plus' 1-inch main camera and dual 50-megapixel telephoto camera. This opens the door to previously mentioned features like handheld astrophotography, tilt-shift, and object freezing. But it swaps the 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens for a 12-megapixel lens and ditches the periscope camera.

Meanwhile, the standard model has a 50 MP IMX866 main camera, a 12 MP ultra wide-angle camera (108° field of view) and a 2x 12 MP telephoto lens.
