Android 13 Update Disrupts Android Auto In Some Pixel Phones

The release of the Android 13 update for some Pixel phones has reportedly caused Android Auto to crash. Google said it would look into the issue.

According to 9to5google, many users have reported problems with Android Auto on their phones after updating the operating system to Android 13 on Google's support page. These issues will be fixed by Google.

However, due to the Android 13 update, Android Auto stopped working on some Pixel phones. For example, one user claimed that he owns a 2020 Honda Civic and his Android Auto doesn't work on his Pixel 5 after updating to Android 13. These issues were discovered in early September, coinciding with the official Android 13 releases.

It's not yet clear how many Pixel devices are experiencing this issue, but it should be few. The issue is also more common on Pixel 5 devices. Additionally, Google has confirmed that it is investigating the matter and an update may be on the way.

On September 8th, in response to one of the affected users, Google said: "Thank you for reporting this issue. We have passed your concerns on to the rest of the team and will update you with any information we have."

Well, there is no confirmed solution to the problem yet. However, in the same discussion, some users said that they could fix the problem by resetting the car's infotainment system. Another solution suggested by the user is to switch from the default USB configuration to File Transfer/Android Auto in the phone's developer options.

We cannot independently confirm whether any of these solutions work. However, if your Android Auto experience on your Pixel phone is getting interrupted and you can't wait for Google's decision, it might be worth trying the solutions above.

This is the second major Android Auto crash in the last two months. In June, Android Auto users also reported a strange bug that made app icons bigger.
