Google has confirmed that it is aware of a bug in Android 14 that is causing storage issues on some Pixel phones. Now warns users not to create multiple accounts on the same device.
After updating to Android 14 a few weeks ago, some Pixel 6a and Pixel 6 Pro users have noticed that they can no longer access their local files or that their devices get stuck in a boot loop and freeze.
A One Pixel 6 Pro user posted on Google's support forums and said he can't take photos or install apps. 573 people said they had the same problem, some said their internal storage dropped from 128GB to 4GB. Another said that accessing storage in the Settings app caused their Pixel phone to crash.
A popular post on Reddit details similar issues after an operating system update. As pointed out by users and now confirmed by Google, the problem is related to people using multiple user profiles on the same device. Obviously this applies to the Pixel 6a and Pixel 6 Pro. But there are reports that Pixel 7, 7a and Pixel Tablet users are facing the same error (via ArsTechnica ).

In a post on the Pixel support forums, a Google spokesperson acknowledged the issue.
“We are aware of an issue affecting some Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and later) that have received the Android 14 update and have multiple users configured (in addition to the primary user). Users include users, guests, limited users. minor profiles and users, but does not include the presence of more than one Google Account in a user's primary or work profiles." The report states:
Google said it is working on a fix and has already released an update that will prevent the issue from occurring on multiple devices. For those interested, Google says it expects the update to restore access to files without rebooting the phone. which will ultimately result in users losing all their data.
But in more severe cases where the phone is stuck in the Pixel Starts boot loop, Google says it is "investigating methods that can recover the data." Google is warning unaffected users from creating additional users on their Pixel devices until a full fix is implemented.
This is one of the most serious problems plaguing the Google Pixel line. Additionally, there is no guarantee that users stuck in a download loop will be able to save their media content without rebooting the phone.
Google's latest devices, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, don't appear to suffer from the same bug. But Google's advice to avoid setting up or accessing secondary user profiles suggests that even newer phones could be susceptible to the problem. Having problems with your Pixel phone's memory usage?
