How To Create Generative AI Wallpapers With Android 14
Android 14 has a lot of exciting new features, especially for Pixel phones. Google has added new customization options that liven up and personalize the home screen and lock screen, including new AI wallpapers. They let you use different words to describe the type of wallpaper you want, and your phone will generate it instantly, giving you tons of options to choose from.
In Android 14, AI-generated wallpapers are created using Google's text-to-image streaming model, which we've seen elsewhere, like Google Search. The feature will come to the Pixel 8 series "first" and is available now, but it's likely to come to other Android phones later, possibly to other Pixels later.
This is a really cool feature that lets you create interesting wallpapers. How to start creating your own AI wallpapers.

The functionality is pretty cool, but still seems limited
Generative AI is all the rage these days, so it's nice to see that Google has already started with Android 14. However, I wish Google would go a little further with AI wallpapers. Don't get me wrong, AI wallpapers are awesome. My problem is that they are very limited and you are limited to Google's own queries and attributes.
We're already seeing Google move to text-to-image with search, where users can type what they want to search for into the search box, and that's the freedom I want with wallpapers. I'd love to create a cool retro wave wallpaper or let Google go completely crazy with their design. Instead, Google's restrictions create beautiful images, but they're all pretty harmless.
But besides more freedom, I also want to share this creativity with others. When I create a beautiful wallpaper, I'd like to see a share button to send my best results to others, and vice versa. For now, we're limited to taking screenshots and cropping or sharing whatever text attributes we want in the hope that someone else can get the same results, rather than saying what could be easier.
Perhaps these additions will come in future updates or with Android 15, but for now we'll have to do it.
