Oppo Find X5 Pro Review: An Android Powerhouse Fit For Business
Although Oppo arrived in Europe about five years ago, its influence on the smartphone market has been huge. As one of China's biggest original smartphone brands and a subsidiary of OnePlus, the company has already impressed with the X2 Pro and X3 Pro, but with the X5 Pro the brand is becoming a true premium contender. European market
The Oppo Find X5 Pro is a premium smartphone with a lightweight aluminum frame and a choice of ceramic or vegan leather. But what makes it more than just another black rectangle?
Oppo Find X5 Pro review: Design
The Find X5 Pro offers a fairly classic smartphone design, but with style; it is a device that will make you very uncomfortable, taking it out and putting it on the table. The curved edge is easy to grip, but the shiny, reflective back is carefully polished, putting you at constant risk of slipping on the most unstable surfaces; therefore the case is essential. It's a shame, because with a 90% screen-to-body ratio and backlit edges - a popular design choice for Oppo and OnePlus users - it creates a nice, modern look that's belied by a camera push above average.
At 8.8mm thick, dipped at the edges, it's surprisingly thin and light, yet heavy enough to ensure a quality finish. In addition to the non-slip back, the screen is protected by the latest generation of Gorilla Glass Victus, which is durable but prone to scratches, so a screen protector is recommended.
Oppo Find X5 Pro in the test: advertising
Visually, the X5 Pro is stunning, with a 1440 x 3216 AMOLED display running up to 120Hz with QHD+ resolution. The color reproduction is very accurate, the movement is smooth and natural. If that all seems overwhelming, you have the option of lowering the refresh rate and lowering the screen resolution to the (still powerful) FHD+ resolution to save battery and resources.
In our screen tests, we found the X5 Pro to be able to faithfully reproduce the full HDR color space and nominally infinite contrast ratio. We had high hopes, with Hasselblad color grading being one of Oppo's main marketing strengths, but with a near-perfect average delta-E of 0.31 (2.20 max) and space coverage 100% sRGB colorimetric, the engine is great. In short, this screen rivals the iPhone 13 and Samsung S22 Ultra in terms of color accuracy.
Oppo Find X5 Pro review: specs and performance
Under the hood of the Oppo Find X5 Pro is an octa-core Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage options, along with an 8GB/256GB model. cheaper that deploys at a cheaper price. available
These specs are more than enough to handle anything you can throw at it with ease, along with the ability to "borrow" additional RAM from storage, a dedicated high-performance mode that takes advantage of all the CPU cores. on a dead battery. . . . But without those extras, we tried every app and game we could think of and they didn't disappoint. For our testing, we disabled both features to match other devices.
In our Geekbench tests, the Oppo X5 processor scored 959 (single-core) and 3280 (multi-core). Although it's not the iPhone 13 (1735 and 4668), it's definitely an impressive result. Compared to other Android devices that don't use Apple's Bionic chip, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra scored 1166 and 3475 points, and the Oppo was the clear winner.
Oppo Find X5 Pro review: Battery life
When it comes to specs like the X5 Pro, especially with a high-end screen, there's always the risk of losing battery life. But our battery tests show one of the longest battery lives we've seen, at 21 hours and 37 minutes of continuous video playback. Sure, that's drastically reduced in real-world use, but we can confidently get through a workday going about our day-to-day activities and coming home with over 20% left over.
With a 5,000mAh battery, we had no issues with all-day battery life, even under heavy use. It should be noted, finally, that Oppo supports 50W wireless charging (Qi) and 10W reverse charging, and Oppo Supervooc's 80W charging allows you to charge while drinking coffee. However, using a non-Oppo charger falls back to standard USB PD, which takes a bit longer.
Oppo Find X5 Pro review: features
The X5 is Oppo's smart version of Android that really sings with ColorsOS 12, delivering a better and better Android 12 experience with unique features that bring out the best in hardware without compromising on being overwhelmed by redundant shells. .
Including all the usual recordings; Bluetooth 5.2, A-GPS, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast and NFC are all present and working fine, but most importantly it's one of the first phones we've tested that only offers the benefits of the latest Wi-Fi standard. Fi 6. , but better Wi-Fi. Fi 6E, which uses the almost free 6 GHz band. It offers faster speed and more contemporary connectivity. Although few routers support it at the time of writing.
The screen has an integrated fingerprint scanner. For maximum security, you can pair your fingerprints with the effective facial recognition function. The bottom edge houses a USB-C 3.1 port and a pair of down-firing stereo speakers that pump out midrange built-in sound. You also get a SIM slot supporting two SIM cards, or you can opt for an e-SIM if you prefer.
A theoretically useful innovation in ColorsOS 12 is Oppo PC Connect, which is designed to provide a seamless experience between your device and computer. To be able to copy and paste between devices, transfer messages, transfer files and have full control of the phone in a dedicated window, this could be very useful, but unfortunately we had problems producing it on two different computers.
However, there's a lot more to love about this phone. The slide-out menu on the home screen gives you quick access to text messages, and another Color OS 12 secret weapon is jumping right into your favorite apps using multiple resizable windows. This makes the phone more effective at multitasking, and with the addition of an external monitor and keyboard, it's quite effective as a desktop computer. It's not exactly Samsung DeX, but it's close.
X5 can manage two versions of the same application linked to different accounts. For example, a "clone" version of the app allows you to connect to two different Twitter accounts. It's an effective way to separate work and personal life on the same device, and we love it. If you're looking for SD card or headphone support, you're out of luck.
Oppo Find X5 Pro review: Camera
The rear cameras require a significant bump on the back of the phone to accommodate a 50MP Hasselblad camera, a second 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The front-facing 32-megapixel punch-hole camera is the only shortcoming of the 6.7-inch bezel-less screen. The camera array is powered by a MariSilicon X imaging chip and Hasselblad color calibration.
Our test photos were crisp, bright and crisp thanks to the phone's AI chip. The 2x optical zoom is a bit smaller than the Huawei and Samsung, but we found images to be much sharper than when cropped and zoomed in to 50MP mode.
Oppo Find X5 Pro in the test: conclusion
There's a lot to like about the Oppo Find X5 Pro, and we've barely scratched the surface when it comes to "sweet" extras, none of which can get in the way of an out-of-the-box Android 12 experience. Surprise even the most ardent pixel enthusiast.
Oppo clearly understands the value of its devices for high-end gamers and professional users and caters to both. More importantly, Oppo promised three years of device updates and four years of security updates for the Find X lineup. That means it should see Android 13 and 14 in its lifetime, and at Short of a quantum leap in technology, the hardware should be just as powerful as it is now, making it a worthwhile long-term investment after £1000. the price
With that, we give it a rating that not only reflects its current popularity, but also its potential. We've been using this device daily for three months now and it's one of our best phones of 2022. PC connectivity should improve over time and Oppo is constantly striving to improve and innovate in the space Android. That means if you don't have to upgrade your device every year, you can buy knowing it will keep you happy through 2023 and beyond.
