Oppo Is Picking Up The Alert Slider From OnePlus Phones
After making Oppo's software and hardware more prominent on OnePlus devices, there's now a move in the opposite direction: the Oppo Find N3 Flip is the first Oppo device to feature a notification slider.
The Oppo Find N3 Flip is a fairly modest upgrade over its predecessor, but there's one feature we weren't expecting. Oppo's new foldable phone will be the first phone to feature an Alert Slider feature taken directly from OnePlus devices.
OnePlus has been offering a notification slider since the OnePlus Two in 2014, and only a handful of devices (OnePlus X, OnePlus 10T, and various Nord versions) have ditched the feature. The slider gives users a touch switch to switch between ring, vibrate and silent modes. It's similar to the iPhone's mute switch, but it's a bit more flexible to use.
The Find N3 Flip has an alert slider on the left, with a toggle visible in one of the images of the Oppo device (as seen below). Oppo calls the alert slider (translated) "Three-step button" on its Chinese website and describes it as follows.
Swipe gently to elegantly isolate obstacles.
This seems like a precautionary move to me.
As with OnePlus devices, the notification slider on the Oppo Find N3 Flip will be able to switch between ring, silent and vibrate modes. It will be interesting to see how the switch will control the direction when the lid is closed when the Find N3 Flip launches globally, as its position will change the controls.
It's not yet clear if Oppo plans to use the notification slider in future versions, but it would certainly make sense. Since OnePlus has adopted some of Oppo's best features, it would be nice if Oppo finally took advantage of what is arguably OnePlus' best hardware feature.
Updated to note that the OnePlus Two is the first device with a notification slider.
