Vivo Is Bringing The X100 Pro And Its Massive Camera To Europe

Central theses

  • Vivo is expanding the availability of the X100 and X100 Pro outside of China, with the X100 targeting South Asian markets and the X100 Pro targeting Europe.
  • What makes these devices stand out is the large 1-inch camera sensor, which provides better performance in low-light conditions.
  • They also boast impressive specs, including a Mediatek Dimensity 9300 chip that rivals the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Vivo X100 and X100 Pro are leaving China and heading to other regions. Both the devices were initially launched on November 13, but only in Vivo's home country. The standard X100 is now shipping to several Asian markets, including India and Indonesia, The Verge reports. X100 Pro is already on its way to Europe.

This migration means the X100 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Vivo X90, which used a similar design at its launch earlier this year. At least for now, Vivo has no plans to release either phone in the US, although we hope that changes at some point.

Camera larger than life

The highlight of the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro is their one-inch sensor. That's quite a lot for a smartphone, and only a few devices have them, including some Xiaomi phones and the Sony Xperia Pro I. In other words, you don't often see cameras of this size on smartphones.

Such a large sensor has its advantages. In our Vivo review, we expect similar, if not better, performance from the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro. A larger sensor means more versatility in low-light scenes and realistic bokeh (the depth of field that cameras use when using wide apertures)—two things that smartphone camera sensors have more of. The kids have problems.

We tested Vivo's photography-focused flagship to find out whether the 1-inch sensor lives up to the hype.

Apart from slightly different camera systems, the X100 and X100 Pro are almost identical devices. Here is a short list of technical characteristics:

  • Chipset – Mediatek Dimensity 9300.
  • RAM - 12 GB/16 GB
  • Storage – 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB
  • Battery – 5000 mAh (X100) / 5400 mAh (X100 Pro)

Using the Dimensity 9300 chip is also an interesting option. Mediatek is best known for its affordable chips, but the Dimensity 9300 performs surprisingly well. In synthetic benchmarks, it's faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that powers many Android flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and should keep pace with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 coming out next year, meaning it's ahead of the flagships next year and can withstand the years well. . . FINE.

Prices and Availability

At the time of writing, exact prices were not available in all regions. Vivo told The Verge that the X100 will cost HK$7,998 in Hong Kong, while the X100 Pro will cost HK$7,998. That's around $768/€702 for the X100 and $1,024/€937 for the X100 Pro. The exact release date has not yet been announced.
