OPPO Find N2 Flip Launched Globally: Look Out, Samsung, Competition Is Here
For years, Samsung has dominated the foldable smartphone industry. Competitors have tried, but nothing has slowed Samsung's growth. However, on February 15, 2023, OPPO launched Find N2 Flip to the global audience. This is the first time that people outside of China are getting their hands on OPPO Foldable.
Will OPPO be a game changer and take some of Samsung's thunder? Here's what you need to know about the OPPO Find N2 Flip.
OPPO Find N2 Flip: design and screen

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
Aesthetically, the OPPO Find N2 Flip is very similar to its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The Moonlit Purple color is very similar to Samsung's Bora Purple.
But if you take a closer look, you will see a lot of differences. The foldable screen is much flatter than the Galaxy Z Flip 4. In fact, the two halves look almost identical. The foldable screen (the smallest screen on the outside of the phone) is also bigger on OPPO devices.
Talking about the display, the surface display is a 3.26-inch display with a peak brightness of 900 nits. It only has a 60Hz refresh rate, but you can access messages, calendar, voice recorder, timers, music controls, weather apps, and more. It offers a full touch experience with fast access. . More importantly, it also has a camera feature that allows you to take selfies using the rear camera instead of the weak phone selfie cameras. With all these features, you can perform most of your daily phone tasks without opening your device.
Opening the phone, you are greeted by a 6.8-inch OLED display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and 1600 nits maximum brightness. It is covered with ultra-thin glass (UTG) instead of a weaker, cheaper, colorless and optically clear polyimide film (CPI). This will make the inner screen stronger and less prone to scratches.
OPPO also claims that the notch in the middle of the extended screen is half that of its "main competitor" (read: Galaxy Z Flip 4). This is definitely important news for anyone who hates wrinkles.
Lastly, the Find N2 Flip is rated IPX4. "X" means not against dust and other particles, and "4" against splashing water. In other words, this phone isn't as durable as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with an IPX8 rating.
What are the OPPO Find N2 Flip cameras?

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
The OPPO Find N2 Flip rear camera system is handled by a 50 MP Sony IMX890. This is paired with an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, with a Sony IMX355 sensor underneath. It's a good system, similar to the OnePlus 11 (minus the telephoto lens) and better than the Galaxy Z Flip 4's hardware.
However, the selfie camera in the notch at the top center of the inner screen is not that big. It's a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 RGBW sensor, which is pretty weak. And OPPO is aware of that and doesn't see it as a problem. The reason is, OPPO does not believe users will take selfies with the selfie camera. Instead, they use an overlay camera setup to take advantage of the 50 megapixel main lens (see image above). For video calls, the built-in selfie camera is used instead.
OPPO Find N2 Flip: power, performance and battery

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
Inside the OPPO Find N2 Flip you will find the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset. This processor will be released in mid-2022. At least in terms of raw performance, the Snapdragon 8 Plus is on par with Gen 1. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, there's no microSD card slot, so you're limited to 256GB.
Everything is powered by a battery with a capacity of 4,300 mAh. That's a lot bigger than the Galaxy Z Flip 4's battery, which is limited to 3,700 mAh. It also charges faster with the 44W cable, and yes, there's a charger in the box. OPPO claims you can go from almost empty to 50% in 23 minutes and 100% in less than an hour. However, be wary of testing these claims.
The bad news is that the Find N2 Flip does not support wireless charging. That's what the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has to offer.
OPPO Find N2 Flip: Firmware

Robert Triggs/Android Authority
OPPO promises four OS updates for this phone. This means that there will be Android 14, Android 15, Android 16 and Android 17. It will also receive security patches for five years. This is in line with Samsung's update commitments for the Galaxy Z Flip 4. And since the Find N2 Flip is newer, it will be supported longer than the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
He also mentioned that OPPO is in talks with other brands about exclusive covers. The overlay screen may have more features as the phone gets older.
