- New leaks indicate that the Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen could be brighter than the Galaxy S23 Ultra's, with a maximum brightness value of 750 nits.
- Moreover, leaks indicate that Samsung is abandoning the curved screen. Alternatively, the Galaxy S24 Ultra may opt for a flat screen.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has one of the best screens among flagship smartphones at the moment, competing in terms of brightness with the OPPO Find X6 Pro and Sony Xperia 1 V. With the Galaxy S24 series, we expect Samsung to raise the bar with significant upgrades. If the new leaks are to be believed, it seems that Samsung wants to make the screen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra brighter and sharper.
According to Liquor Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a 6.78-inch display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a maximum brightness of 2500 nits. The aspect ratio was incorrectly listed as 19.5:5, but was later clarified on Twitter.
Ice Universe doesn't have a flawless track record, so we suggest you take these speculative claims with a grain of salt. In fact, if true, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen is 750 nits brighter (at maximum brightness) than the Galaxy S23 Ultra's (1750 nits), matching the Find X6 Pro's peak brightness.
The leak didn't mention it, but we've heard rumors that Samsung might use an M13 panel, which refers to a high-performance 13th generation OLED panel. These panels are said to be thin and energy efficient.
The tweet also contained a sample of what the Galaxy S24 Ultra could look like.
The biggest and most obvious change we see in the model is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a curved screen. Instead, we could get a phone with a flat front like we see on the current Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. But Samsung managed to keep the extremely sharp corners of the S24 Ultra, giving it a unique look.
We hear similar claims from chat site Leaker Digital, which notes that all phones in the Galaxy S24 series could come with a flat screen.
If true, it will be the first time in many years that Samsung's best flagship phone will appear on screen. In fact, 2024 could be the year Samsung's flagship lineup (or entire smartphone lineup, for that matter) doesn't feature a curved phone!
Samsung has been devoted to curved screens for almost a decade in its Galaxy S series (starting with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015), and even in its previous Note series (including the Galaxy Note Edge released in 2014) and Hugging curves. demonstration
Curved screens have since become a hallmark of "premium" and "luxury" design in smartphones, with Apple's iPhone being the only notable exception, which is expected to continue with the flat-screen iPhone 15 series. Flat screens are pretty easy to hold and use and pair well with screen protectors and cases.
The rest of the smartphone industry has followed Samsung's footsteps, with most premium and premium smartphones featuring curved screens. It will be interesting to see how the industry and consumers react to Samsung's move to flat screens.
