  • Future Samsung XR headphones may gain touch and olfactory functions.
  • It's unclear how the headphones will use these features.
  • It is speculated that the headphones could also have a very sharp display.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced plans to launch a new XR headset in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. Recent rumors suggest that the headphones will be updated in light of the introduction of Apple's Vision Pro, and Samsung seems to be playing with some eclectic ideas.

Tipster Tech_Reve on X claimed that Samsung is considering integrating touch and smell capabilities into its headphones.

The leak does not explain these features, although we believe that the touchscreen integration means that the headphones have a touchscreen or some type of touch panel. This would be unprecedented for a wearable technology product, as even wireless headphones and earphones have touch panels for system and media controls. In fact, even Samsung's portable Gear VR headset had a touchpad for navigating the system.

The flavors feature seems really strange and we can't imagine any other use than to provide different flavors depending on the experience. For example, in theory, Samsung XR headphones could emit the scent of the ocean when you take a virtual walk on the beach. Or you can smell the pine trees as you playfully walk through the forest. Hopefully someone will program the fresh bread feature when this feature is actually available.

However, the leaker claims that the technology related to the features mentioned above will be announced at Samsung's LSI Tech Day event, which will take place on October 5.

The tipster also notes that the pixel density of the Samsung headphones exceeds 3,000 pixels per square inch (PPI), making their display very clear. By comparison, Apple's Vision Pro offers around 3,400 pixels per inch. Either way, we've previously heard claims that Samsung decided to delay the launch of the headphones to better compete with Apple's product. But I'm not sure if anyone has any of the list of improvements to combat Vision Pro.
