Vivo X Fold Handson Review
vivo recently held its first Tech Day event in India at the National Stadium in New Delhi, where it spoke about 5G, the X80 series, its partnership with ZEISS, and the V1+ chipset. The company has demonstrated a two-color pattern generation and design technology that is not yet commercially available. Although not new, one of the devices shown at Vivo Tech Day is the vivo X Fold, which was launched in April and is still only available in China. We had the opportunity to attend the event and hang out with the Vivo X Fold, so Vivo's first foldable phone is similar in design to the China-exclusive vivo X Fold+ launched last month.

Vivo X Fold includes two screens: a 6.53-inch cover with a resolution of 2520x1080 pixels and a foldable screen with a resolution of 2160x1916 pixels that is 8.03 inches diagonally and surrounded by a plastic frame. Both are 120Hz AMOLED panels, but the cover display can only switch between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rates, while the foldable display has a 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate like the LTPO.

The X Fold's exterior screen has a hole for the 16MP selfie camera, and you'll find another one when you flip the phone over. While the selfie shooter inside isn't the same as what we saw on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, what we get on the X Fold are 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanners on each screen. Making it the first foldable phone with a UD fingerprint reader, the Fold4 comes with a side sensor. We like Vivo's solution because it's more convenient to unlock the phone.

If you hop on the Xfold, if you have the blue model or the black version, you'll get a leather-wrapped rear panel, the latter having a vertical line that runs the length of vivo branding. The blue version certainly looks great, but those who want a subtle and formal look can opt for the black model.

The leather fabric makes the vivo X Fold premium and comfortable to hold, and the finish is very similar to the protective case of the vivo X80 Pro. And based on our experience since the X80 Pro launched in April, we're confident the X Fold's leather-covered panel will help with grip and won't attract fingerprints.

The rear panel of the Vivo X Fold has a quad camera system: 50 MP main (with OIS), 48 MP ultra-wide, 12 MP telephoto and 8 MP periscope (with OIS). The phone's wide-angle camera is housed in a rectangular island and sports ZEISS branding and a T* coating. The island design is reminiscent of the vivo X80 Pro.
While the rear panel is fingerprint resistant, the same can't be said for the camera island, which gets dirty quickly. It's not really a deal breaker, but we want vivo to fix it in future smartphones.
The Vivo X Fold's camera island is reminiscent of the X80 Pro and is a fingerprint magnet.
One of the highlights of the Vivo X Fold is its foldable display, which vivo says features an "unnoticeable notch" of UTG (ultra-thin glass) and a custom aerospace-grade hinge. Equipment

The phone manufacturer also claimed that the X-Fold was opened and closed (folded - unfolded) 300,000 times and even after that, the depth and width of the fold remained within the acceptable range, ensuring a good user experience and a "reliable" receipt. Evaluation. TUV "Rhineland Bend" certificate.

While that all sounds great, how does the vivo X Fold perform? Well, you might feel the heaviness while using the phone but you will get used to it quickly as it is barely noticeable while viewing content.

The hinge was nice and sturdy and held the foldable screen open at different angles so users could shoot videos, take photos, make video calls, and even use the phone as a mini laptop if they wanted. Adventurer

The Vivo X Fold is interesting because it doesn't open when the phone is closed. For a first-generation flip phone, that's pretty impressive. When you close the phone, it is well complemented by satisfying sound, which also inspires confidence.

The overall build of the Vivo X Fold is gorgeous. It has a metal frame with antenna lines on all sides. The power button and volume rocker are on the right while the notification slider is on the left.

At the bottom is a USB-C port with SIM card slot, microphone and speaker. And up top there's another speaker with an IR blaster and a second microphone.

Overall, we like the design of the vivo X Fold, and the Fold+ isn't a different design, it's literally the X Fold with a different chipset, bigger battery (but same size and weight ), we can no longer say. Rapidly. Fill, and a third color option, red. You can check Vivo X Fold and X Fold Plus specifications here.
The vivo X Fold units shown at the Tech Day event were running OriginOS Ocean based on Android 12. This is to be expected as the X Fold is only for China and the Chinese Vivo phones have OriginOS instead of FuntouchOS on the international models.

It's unclear whether the Vivo X Fold or X Fold+ will launch outside of China, but Vivo officials told me the brand has no plans to launch a foldable phone in India. It's a bit of a shame as Vivo did a good job with the notch display in its first foldable phones and it would be nice if Samsung had some options from the BBK team in India and other markets. We hope to see BBK brands release their foldable smartphones outside of China soon.
