Samsung has started rolling out its latest security update, and it's a must-have for those with phones that use Exynos modems (like last year's flagship Galaxy S22) that are at high risk of major security breaches. The new update fixes these security issues (and more) and is now rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series in Europe and South Korea.

In mid-March, a report by Google's internal security research team, Project Zero, found that security issues found in devices with Exynos modems could make it very easy for remote users to compromise the phone's baseband. Samsung said at the time that it released security fixes for five of those vulnerabilities in March, with an update in April to fix the rest.

According to a report on the Samsung website, the April 2023 security patch update contains fixes for 55 Google security vulnerabilities (CVEs), four of which are critical and 46 fixes are classified as high priority. That's why it's important to install this update on your Galaxy phones as soon as it arrives, even if the Galaxy S23 series doesn't use the Exynos modem. It also fixes vulnerabilities found in the 3GPP implementation in the Exynos modem base and the Exynos fastboot USB interface.

With the update, Samsung also introduces 15 more fixes for Galaxy phones and tablets. Most of these bugs are found on devices running Android 11 and above. In addition to high-risk vulnerabilities, SemClipboard, SLocatoin, and Telefonia functionality bugs were also fixed, with a special focus on vulnerabilities found in TIGERF credentials, a hacking vulnerability in CertificatePolicy, and improper authorization of the Smart Offers widget. In other words, many bugs have been fixed.
