Redmis Ludicrous 300W Fast Charging Tech Will Top Up Your Phone's Battery In 5 Minutes
Up until a few years ago, phones were delivering peak charging speeds of 25-50W, until Chinese smartphone makers rushed to launch the fastest charging phone. Before long, 100W fast charging became common even in mid-range phones. And thanks to OnePlus 11, you can enjoy unmatched speeds in the US, too. But if you think 100W is fast, think again. Xiaomi Redmi sub-brand has introduced support for 300W smartphone charging.
Redmi's unveiling comes a few weeks after Realme unveiled the GT Neo 5 with ridiculous 240W fast charging support.
In a post on Weibo, Redmi showed a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition with a 4100mAh battery that charges with an insane 300W of power. This gives the phone 290 W of power, 280 W is an average power consumption for about 2 minutes. The standard Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition packs a 4300mAh battery and supports 210W fast charging.
The modded Redmi Note 12 took only 82 seconds to charge the battery to 50%, while a full charge took 4 minutes and 54 seconds. In comparison, Realme says that the GT Neo 5 can be charged from 0 to 100% in under 10 minutes with 240W fast charging. Interestingly, the USB-C Power Delivery standard itself is designed for a maximum output of 240W.
Xiaomi uses double GaN technology to check the size of the 300W power supply, and it also has a built-in "protection 50". In order for the battery to be able to absorb so much energy in such a short time, the company uses more powerful 15C cells. It also involves using some carbon parts instead of graphite for the electrodes, making them 35% thinner.
Xiaomi claims to have used a new "sandwich" design on the battery to better dissipate heat and make better use of internal space. The company didn't provide any further details on its latest charging technology and how it will appear on a smartphone.
