Vivo Updates Foldable Phone X Fold+ With Highend Qualcomm Processor
Chinese phone provider Vivo unveiled its second-generation foldable phone, the X Fold+, at a launch event in China on Monday night, priced between RMB 9,999-10,999 (US$1,396-1,536).
Why is it important? Vivo's new foldable phone uses the latest processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which follows rivals such as Motorola, Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei. The phone maker's marketing campaign aims to attract consumers who prefer a more powerful camera system and dual fingerprint recognition (both on the internal and external screens).
- China's high-end smartphone market saw sales growth in the second quarter of this year, according to reports from Counterpoint Research and IDC, although overall smartphone sales slowed and Android phones grabbed a larger market share. The foldable phone may have more options than ever, given its high price and market focus.
More details . But the new generation comes with a new processor, better charging speed and an improved battery.
- This phone has an internal folding design. The highlight of this phone is that it supports a Samsung Infinity Flex-like experience as it can be folded to different angles.
- At 311g, the phone is heavier than rival offerings. Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Huawei Mate Xs 2 weigh 262g and 255g respectively.
- The new model has also expanded its cargo offering. With a 4730mAh battery and 80W charging speed, charging is 30% faster than the previous model.
- Vivo X Fold+ offers a high-quality camera system with Zeiss optical signature, ranging from ultra-wide-angle to telephoto. The two main cameras offer a resolution of 50 million and 48 million pixels.
- The phone has an 8.03-inch internal display and a 6.53-inch external display. Both support 120Hz refresh rate. The built-in LTPO display (a technology that supports adaptive refresh rates to save battery life) offers a 2160 x 1916 resolution and a 4:3.55 aspect ratio for about 360 pixels per inch (PPI). The external screen has a resolution of 2520 x 1080 with an aspect ratio of 21:9.
- The phone will be available in three color combinations on September 29. Vivo offers two storage combinations including 12GB RAM plus 256GB storage and 12GB RAM plus 512GB storage.
Background: So far, Vivo has focused on selling foldable phones in China, but has yet to launch or announce plans to release foldable phones overseas.
