It all started when Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, visited the Berlin Love Parade in Germany. The event, which began in July 1989, was initially intended to protest against the Berlin Wall that divided the city in two. Since the fall of the wall in November 1989, the Love Parade has continued, attracting more and more people every year. After this event, Jack Lang provided ideas. The person behind Make Music Day wants to draw inspiration from the Love Parade to create an event that aims to promote electro culture and un-demonized electro music, which is often the victim of many prejudices.
Jack Lang, surrounded by Henri Morel, founder of Radio FG and co-founder of Technopol, launched the first Techno Parade on 19 September 1998. It was an immediate success, with 200,000 people participating in the first edition. The publication allowed him to write a memorandum for the Ministry of the Interior that recognized the cultural aspect of techno.
Since then, the electro event has been relaunched every September in Paris, except in 2001, when the Techno Parade was canceled following the September 11 attacks in the United States. The event was also canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the health crisis. .
