Tecno Spark 20 Pro And Spark 20 Pro Plus Impressions: Ace Value Packages

In the battle for budget phones, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus may not be the most obvious choice, but they still pose a challenge. But will they be able to stand up to the competition? Let's take a look at them.

Basically, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus are almost identical, apart from a few changes to the case and minor tweaks here and there. Foregoing the plastic back panel of many of its predecessors really helps the Spark 20 Pro series. Both phones feature elegant, curved frames and a wide range of attractive color tones. I particularly liked the shimmering Sunset Blush, but the eco-friendly options Magic Skin 2.0 Green (read: faux leather) are also commendable. Durability isn't neglected either: the phones are waterproof to IP53. The box also includes a protective cover to keep your items in perfect condition.

This series of phones uses large screens and considering the price, it does not disappoint in this area. The Spark 20 Pro has an LCD screen and the Pro Plus has a premium AMOLED panel, but with vibrant colors and a consistent 120Hz refresh rate, they're still pretty good.

One thing I want to mention about these screens is the pinhole. For some reason, Tecno decided to copy the Dynamic Island integration we've seen in recent iPhones and try to incorporate it into the UI. This particular Tecno phone is used for simpler tasks like charging monitoring, which is fine, but it looks out of place on the Android version of the Tecno, especially since the hole is so small.

While the high-end design has some luxury and charm, the one below is a little more in line with the asking price. The Spark 20 Pro uses the MediaTek Helio G99, while the Pro Plus comes with the Helio G99 Ultimate chip. Personally, I couldn't notice any difference in data performance given the recent SoC bidding updates, but both phones have 8GB of RAM to keep them running smoothly. Multitasking is smooth and games run lag-free, even with most 3D games, although none of them can compete with the most powerful Android phones.

Although the camera systems look different, both the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus have a 108MP primary sensor that captures sharp details and rich colors even in difficult lighting conditions. Both phones are very capable in almost all situations, although they lack any real wow factor and can't compete with the best in the industry.

Tecno has also omitted additional features of the device. You get dual speakers that deliver immersive sound, and there's a 5,000mAh battery that lasts all day and 33W fast wired charging to charge these devices in a snap. There's also a microSD card slot if you need a little more space.

Although the features look great, there are some significant compromises. None of these models have 5G, which is a bit disappointing. The camera also lacks a separate telephoto zoom lens, but that's impressive in this price range. What's not up for debate is that I couldn't find any information about the software update policies, which are a bit vague and a little worrying if you intend to keep them for a long time.

The Tecno Spark 20 Pro and Pro Plus offer great displays, powerful cameras and incredibly smooth performance, all in a stylish and robust body. If your budget is limited but you don't want to compromise on quality, these phones should be at the top of your shopping list. There's no denying that the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and Pro Plus are budget champions that punch above their weight. The only problem might be your hands, as the phones will only be available in Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
