The Oppo Find X7 Has Produced The Best Photographs I Have Seen From A Phone!
Oppo recently launched a dual periscope camera phone that sets a new benchmark in mobile photography.
Oppo's latest flagship camera, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, launched in China yesterday (January 8) and looks set to become one of the best camera phones for photography. The new Android phone has a total of four 50MP rear cameras, each with a different optical zoom, meaning the quad-camera setup offers a consistent zoom from 14mm to 270mm without "degrading image quality" .
The Find X7 Ultra features a dual periscope camera, making it the first phone to feature a dual periscope camera. It retains the 65mm 3x periscope of the Oppo Find X6 Pro which offers a bright f/2.6 aperture. The second periscope camera comes in the form of a 135mm 6x telephoto lens with built-in OIS and a minimum focus distance of 35cm.
The other two cameras consist of a wide-angle camera with a second-generation 1-inch Sony sensor, f/1.8 aperture and OIS, and a 14mm f/2 ultra-wide-angle equivalent with an impressive minimum focusing distance of 4 cm. . . !
Another reason I'm interested in this camera is that Oppo continues its collaboration with Hasselblad and the portrait examples provided are probably the best photos I've ever seen on a phone. Sure, good lighting conditions, the photographer and the subject are an important part, but the camera reproduces depth of field more like a medium format camera than that of a phone.
The 65mm and 135mm focal lengths are ideal for portraits, allowing for greater subject compression and depth of field. Portraits are said to be easier to shoot in low light thanks to the increased ISO, larger sensor and wider aperture.
With intelligent capture you can also focus on people and animals and recognize both easily. The camera naturally reproduces bokeh and out-of-focus areas without the weird blurriness often found in portrait mode on other phones.
Aside from the naturally blurry background, another reason sample photos are attractive is their color tone. I've always appreciated Hasselblad's color science and it looks like this can be replicated in Oppo's cameras. Skin tones look natural and the color depth is amazing.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra allows for further refinement in the Master mode, developed by Hasselblad. This is a professional shooting mode where you can adjust settings like mirrorless camera and handle RAW shooting with RAW MAX.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is now available in China and unfortunately there is no news or release for the US and Europe yet. I hope this may change in the future, or perhaps Oppo is working on a different camera for this region that includes the same camera technology, as I will test it first.
