Tecno's Phantom V Flip Phone Puts A Circular Display On Its Cover
While most of the current Philips phone manufacturers focus on increasing the size of their curved screens, new entrants have decided to switch to round screen sizes. After its foldable flagship earlier this year, Chinese company Techno has released its first foldable phone, the Phantom V Flip 5G, which aims to differentiate itself from the competition with its circular AMOLED display on the outside. The Huawei P50 Pocket is the first clamshell phone to offer these features, but its techno counterpart has a more practical 1.32-inch size and a slightly sharper 352 ppi resolution, which means better selfies, richer notifications and better widgets such as weather, brightness, and rings. . , voice recorder, timer and much more.
The Phantom V Flip is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 8050 5G chip and thus competes with the Moto Razr in the mid-range segment. Like most of Techno's latest devices, it is priced around $600, though it will be available only in India initially (Rs 49,999 to be exact) and will come to other markets later. At least this device comes preloaded with Google services, unlike many of its local peers. As a bonus, Tecnos HiOS 13.5 (based on Android 13) comes with its own voice assistant “Ella” with integrated ChatGPT.
Despite the price, the technical information here does not disappoint. The Phantom V Flip is 14.95mm thick when folded and 6.95mm thick when unfolded. At 195 grams, it is now the heaviest device in the clamshell category. This is supported by a reasonable 4,000 mAh battery (Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 only has 3,700 mAh) which supports 45W fast charging: 15 minutes waiting for a depleted battery to 50% or 45 minutes for a full charge. Unfortunately, there is no wireless charging for those concerned.
Inside, the Phantom V Flip features a dynamic 6.9-inch FHD+ (2640 x 1080) display with LTPO 10-120 Hz refresh rate and 360 Hz touch sample rate. The hinge is useful for rotating at any angle between 30 and 150 degrees. To take selfies through the rear camera; You can also use motion or sound to take a photo.
In terms of photography, there is a 64-megapixel main camera with f/1.7 aperture, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a small LED flash, all three features spread around a round screen protector. A 32-megapixel punch-hole selfie camera with an LED flash at the top of the screen to make you look cute on video calls when unlocked.
Techno doesn't sell accessories at cheap prices. The Phantom V Flip comes with a protective case that protects all four sides of the phone except for the holes for the fingerprint scanner and volume rocker. This case also has a loop that fits over the zipper so you can wear your phone as a pendant or hold it securely.
While it's unclear whether the $600 Phantom V Flip will make it to Western markets, Tecno seems to have a chance to threaten its established rivals in this ever-growing mobile phone segment, especially before the new Moto Razr hits the US market. . If only that. (In China, the price starts from 550 dollars). However, it's only a matter of time before companies like Honor and Xiaomi offer equally competitive flip devices.
