Vivo V29 Review: Solid Display And Camera In A Sleek Package
vivo is quietly gaining momentum in the smartphone market. The company even overtook Samsung to take first place in one of the world's most important smartphone markets, and is also strengthening its position in Europe and Latin America. One of the main reasons for their success is that they offer a great camera and great experience without charging exorbitant prices.
Vivo V series smartphones are known for offering great cameras at affordable prices. In fact, our sister site Pocket-Lint rated the Vivo V27 as a budget phone with a very good camera. Vivo V29 is the company's latest offering, bringing enhanced Aura Ring Light capabilities and a unique design.
We have been using the vivo V29 for the past few weeks and are very impressed with it. In this review, we'll take a look at everything the Vivo V29 has to offer and see if it's worth the money.

Price and availability
Vivo remains a mystery when it comes to Vivo V29 pricing. How much it will cost they did not publish. Although the company claims that the device is "launched", it is not for sale at the moment. However, the device will go on sale soon.
Vivo says the V29 will be sold in a total of 39 countries worldwide, including key markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Based on what we know about the phone's specs and the history of the V series smartphones, we're guessing the price is likely to be under 500 euros. But there was no more detailed official statement on this matter.
We will update this review as more information becomes available.

The Vivo V29 shares a lot of design language with its V27 predecessor. It has a curved display on the front and a curved back with a rectangular camera module in the top left corner. The camera system now includes a larger main camera, an ultra-wide sensor, and a much larger aura illumination ring, which we'll talk about later. There is also a small 2MP monochrome sensor next to the flash.
The rear takes on a unique look, especially in the Peak Blue version we tested. This unique look is inspired by mountain peaks and contains about 15 million microns of magnetic particles that reflect light in a special way, creating a unique look. If you like glossy finishes, the Peak Blue V29 will grab your attention.
The Starry Purple version also has a different finish. The V29 is also available in velvet red, which is very similar to purple and has a subtle gradient. But if you prefer something simpler, the V29 is also available in Noble Black. The last two models feature sharpened fluorite glass, while others like the Peak Blue and Starry Purple use a plastic back for a premium feel.
Standard phone layout. At the bottom is the USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side, while the top and left sides are blank. Despite the slim profile and double arches front and rear, Vivo has made sure the V29's buttons are tactile and easily accessible.
Vivo V29 is a pleasure to use thanks to its elegant design and comfortable in hand.
Overall, the Vivo V29 feels very good in the hand. The curved back and display make it elegant and pleasant to use. It is quite light, weighing about 186 grams, and does not cause fatigue during prolonged use. However, it is a little slippery, so using a simple TPU case will help. But even in a case, the phone is still sleek and comfortable.
In terms of durability, the Vivo V29 matches most current flagships thanks to IP68 dust and water resistance, something we rarely see in budget smartphones. vivo even claims that the V29 can withstand a 1m drop test, though we haven't tested that ourselves.
screen
- Resolution 6.78 inches, 2800×1260 pixels, AMOLED, 120Hz, 452 PPI
- curved edge
- In-screen fingerprint scanner
In terms of display, the Vivo V29 features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. This screen has a resolution of 2800×1260 pixels, 452 PPI and supports HDR10+ playback. It's curved on the sides, and while it's not curved like the HONOR 90, I have to say it's one of the nicest screens I've seen in this category. The side bezels are minimal and the top and bottom bezels are also very small.
If I had to sum up my impressions of the vivo V29 screen in one sentence, I would say that it is a pleasure to use it.
Color reproduction is very good, sunlight visibility is also very good. Playing games, surfing the Internet, watching videos and reading are enjoyable activities on Vivo V29. The 120Hz refresh rate makes the picture smoother and smoother. vivo is also equipped with several display technologies that reduce harmful blue light and screen flicker and protect your eyes.
camera
- 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and f/1.9 aperture.
- 8 MP ultra wide-angle sensor + 2 MP monochrome sensor
- Selfie camera 50 MP with autofocus
- Aura ring light with intelligent color temperature control and even illumination
And now what makes the Vivo V29 shine. The Vivo V29 has the same camera setup as its predecessor, with a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. The front selfie camera is still 50MP but now has autofocus and a wider f/2.0 aperture for brighter selfies.
The main camera is the star of the show. Create stunning photos with lots of detail and clarity. Colors are reasonably vibrant, leaning slightly towards the brighter side, especially when compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but not overly saturated. Images are crisp, have a wide dynamic range, and have virtually no noticeable noise. Even in low light, the V29 manages to capture details that even the best flagship smartphones can't.
Even in low light conditions or in places with artificial lighting, the camera still impresses. Capture lots of light without using an Aura ring lamp with built-in Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The ring light is useful in low light situations where using flash isn't ideal. Object detection and automatic color adjustment work flawlessly.
Vivo V29 has one of the best main cameras in the mid-range segment.
But the ultra wide-angle camera and monochrome sensor are a bit disappointing. You will notice an overall decrease in quality, sharpness, detail, and color. However, if you don't use the ultra wide-angle camera often, it will only work occasionally. For best results, it's best to use the main camera and the selfie camera.
As for the selfie camera, the V29 features a 50MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. Like the previous model, the V29 offers some of the best front shots. Selfies are rich in detail and sharpness and always impress with their quality. Overall, if selfies are your thing, the V29 won't disappoint.
The Vivo V29 may have the best camera of any mid-range smartphone, but trust me; Check out the example images below and decide for yourself.

hardware and software
- Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G.
- 8 GB + 128/256 GB or 12 GB + 256/512 GB
- Funtouch OS 13 (Based on Android 13)
Moving on to the internals, the Vivo V29 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, the same chipset used in the Nothing Phone last year (1). The chip has one Cortex-A78 clocked at 2.4GHz, three Cortex-A78 clocked at 2.2GHz, and four Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.9GHz. The Adreno 642L supports mobile graphics and is available in 8GB/12GB RAM and 1258GB or 512GB internal storage.
In daily use, the Snapdragon 778G performs well. It handles multitasking, app switching, and multiple games without issue. There were a few instances of animation stuttering, especially when there was a delay during initial setup, but once that was fixed, the phone was fast and responsive most of the time.
However, if you love playing games, this might not be the best choice. Games like Call of Duty, Asphalt 9 and Battlegrounds Mobile India (the Indian version of PUBG Mobile) should have lower graphics for a smoother gaming experience. But if you're used to scrolling through Instagram, WhatsApp messages, browsing, and similar tasks, this phone will do just fine.
In terms of software, Vivo V29 comes with Funtouch OS 13. It is very similar to stock Android but with a few extra (useful) features like multi-window gestures, animations and customizable themes. Vivo has promised two major Android OS updates and three years of security updates for the V29.
The Vivo V29 handles day-to-day tasks with ease, but for serious gaming, it might not be the best choice.
If I could be picky about the hardware, the speakers wouldn't be the best. They are clear and loud, but lack bass and have only one speaker, so we do not get a stereo effect. From a software standpoint, Funtouch OS seems to be pretty aggressive in limiting animation refresh rates to save battery, but we were able to force 120Hz and still get good battery life. Speaking of batteries...
drum
- 4600 mAh battery
- Wired fast charging 80W.
- No wireless charging
The Vivo V29 packs a 4,600mAh battery, which may not be the biggest compared to other mid-range phones. But it actually works very well. I was able to get through the day without any problems (including using the phone for email, web browsing, photos and games) and consistently got over 6 hours of screen time (SoT) under full load.
If you need fast charging, the V29 is equipped with super-fast 80W FlashCharge technology. vivo claims that a smartphone can go from 0 to 50% in less than 18 minutes, and I think that's true. The package also includes a charging adapter. If I had to find a minor gripe, it's the lack of wireless charging, which is a little disappointing. But honestly, I didn't miss it because the battery life is pretty impressive.
note
So, should you buy Vivo V29? Well, if you're looking for a lightweight smartphone that fits comfortably in your hand, has a great display with well-integrated software, and offers a great camera experience without a price that won't set you back, the Vivo V29 is the one for you. perfect solution...
The performance may be only marginal, but if you don't like graphics intensive games, this doesn't bother you. In addition, the battery life is quite long and the charging time is short. All in all, if you're looking for a mid-range smartphone with impressive camera specs, the V29 won't disappoint.
