Redmi 12 5G and Redmi 12: Specifications and Features
The Redmi 12 5G stands out from the crowd of cheap smartphones in India with its Crystal Glass design on the back and the metal center frame with rounded edges. The device comes with Redmi's largest screen to date at 6.79 inches, Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz adaptive refresh rate . The panel offers a maximum brightness of 550 nits and a touch sampling rate of 240 Hz. The front and back of the screen are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset , a first in the Indian market. It is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UV 2.2 storage. Redmi 12 5G offers the option to expand its memory up to 8GB and supports SD card storage expansion up to 1TB.
The smartphone has a 50 MP main camera with a 2 MP depth sensor. It uses Xiaomi's AI algorithm and Qualcomm's ISP Spectra for high quality image output. It has camera features like HDR, night mode, time lapse, portrait, seven movie filters and many more. The front camera has a resolution of 8 MP. As for videos, you can record 1080p at 30 fps with the rear camera and 720p at 30 fps with the front camera.
The device packs a 5000mAh battery with 18W Type-C fast charging support, an X61 modem, Bluetooth 5.0 and dual band - INTERNET ACCESS WITH LAN. In addition, the device is splash and dust protected according to IP53. In terms of software, the Redmi 12 5G comes with MIUI 14 based on Android 13. It also includes a side fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm audio jack and IR scanner.
With the Redmi 12 4G, the phone is exactly the same as its 5G counterpart, except that it does not support 5G and is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC. It also has a triple camera setup (a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 2 MP macro camera).
Price and availability
The Redmi 12 5G starts at 11,999 while the Redmi 12 4G has a starting price of Rs 9,999. While the 5G variant will be available through Amazon, the 4G variant will go on sale through Flipkart from August 4. Both will also be available on Xiaomi's website, Mi Home and Mi Studio.
