Samsung Galaxy S24: What We Know So Far, Including Release And Price
The Galaxy S23 series has been a huge success for Samsung, with the Ultra model being the most popular among fans. With that in mind, it seems odd to be talking about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra so soon after the current model's launch. But rumors about the Galaxy S24 Ultra began to surface on the internet almost a year before the phone was launched. We'll break down all the rumors about the Galaxy S24 Ultra's design, specs, and release date below.
Release date and price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung introduced the Galaxy S23 series at the beginning of February this year. Pre-orders began immediately after the launch event, and all three Galaxy S23 phones hit stores in most locations on February 17th.
It's the usual window for Samsung's first flagship series of the year. The Galaxy S24 phone models could launch in early 2024. We're expecting a similar release date for the phones as Samsung will be pushing to get the Galaxy S24 Ultra in stores ahead of the big MWC 2024 as there will be plenty of Ultra competitors. One of the most interesting things about the current lineup is the pricing structure of the Samsung Galaxy S23. The 2023 Ultra starts at $1,199, which is a great price for a flagship. Of course, most fans would expect the Galaxy S24 Ultra to be priced similarly. But don't be surprised by some of the price increases.
Apple's iPhone 15 Pro phones are said to be more expensive than usual thanks to many exclusive features. If Apple raises prices this year. Samsung would have a good excuse to do the same with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Even if Apple doesn't budge, Samsung's high-end flagships are out of the question.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 flagships launched in August can give us an idea of Samsung's pricing strategy for new high-end models.
Although the Galaxy S24 phones cost more, let us remind you that Samsung has excellent pre-order deals. You have to wait a few months to get a replacement phone. Samsung's Android devices are not as valuable as iPhones.
What about the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24? Will there be more design changes?
The Galaxy S23 Ultra uses almost the same design as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. One of the changes concerns the curvature and edges of the screen. The S23 Ultra's screen isn't flat, but it's not as curved as the S22 Ultra's. Flat screens are more durable, but it's unclear if Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a fully flat screen.
What we don't want to change is the top and bottom edges, which should be flat. This is due to the built-in stylus, which forces Samsung to use a flat bottom edge. So the upper edge gets the same design.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to have the largest screen in the S24 series, at least 6.8 inches. The screen is expected to support a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz, although some rumors claim the screen will be upgraded to 144Hz.
On the back, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a massive camera system. As with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, we expect the rear lenses to have independent bumps. But we're just waiting at this point.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra may be the only S24 model with a periscope camera. More importantly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to be the only flagship to rock a 200-megapixel sensor.
Galaxy S24 Ultra features
All Galaxy S24 phones have the same basic features, although the Ultra 2024 gets the best possible hardware for the phone.
We could look at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor powering the entire range. Samsung is reportedly considering an Exynos 2400 processor for the Galaxy S24 lineup. But I hope that won't happen. One of the main reasons for the Galaxy S23's success is that it doesn't suffer from the same performance issues as the Exynos-powered Galaxy S22.
All three S24 phones are expected to rock like their LPDDR5X-RAM predecessors. But non-Ultra phones can expand the storage up to 12GB. A recent rumor also claimed that the Galaxy S24 Ultra could have 16GB of RAM.
In terms of storage, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to have 1TB of storage, starting at 256GB. You can double your free storage with a pre-booked offer. It's too early to tell if we can expect an increase in storage speeds beyond current UFS 4.0 technology.
As for the battery, like its predecessors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have at least a 5,000mAh battery. But we're still speculating. Either way, the Ultra will have the largest possible battery, as the S24 is the larger variant. The charging speed should be at least compatible with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It's 45W wired charging, but I'm hoping Samsung improves it.
Galaxy S24 Ultra camera improvements
As usual with flagships, the main camera will be one of the most important features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
As we have already explained, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to have four rear lenses. The main shooter will keep the 200MP that Samsung introduced earlier this year. However, rumors suggest that Samsung could unveil a new 200-megapixel sensor with additional features.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to have three additional cameras, including an ultra-wide lens and two telephoto lenses. One of the things Samsung should do with the Galaxy S24 Ultra is explain how night photography works. And maybe they'll stop pretending their phone pictures of the moon are real.
