Vivo's X90 Flagship Phones Charge To 50 Percent In 8 Minutes
Just days after Samsung unveiled its flagship Galaxy S23, Vivo China is here to crash the party. On Friday, the company launched Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro, rugged smartphones with a long and impressive list of features.
The X90 Pro is the more powerful of the two, with a 6.78-inch curved screen (yes, Vivo still has a curved screen, though Samsung has moved on to smarter pastures) with a 120Hz refresh rate, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 / Vivo V2 chip combination, 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage.
The phone has a massive 4,870 battery with 120W wired charging and 50W charging. Call from 1% to 100 in 29 minutes. However, if you need more speed, you can upgrade to fast charging, which charges the X90 Pro from 1% to 50% in eight minutes and 10 seconds.
The X90 Pro has an interesting camera setup, housing a large circular camera on the back of the phone. The main shooter is a 50-megapixel ZEISS camera, along with a 50-megapixel portrait camera and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. Note that instead of opting for an optical zoom suite like Samsung's, Vivo focuses on portraits, which makes sense if you want to take photos of people rather than distant objects. The main camera should also be pretty good, as it uses Sony's 1-inch IMX989 sensor, the largest sensor in the smartphone industry so far (the same sensor is used in the Xiaomi flagship 13 Pro, which hit the market in December 2022). On the front, you'll find a 32-megapixel front-facing camera hidden in a punch-hole in the center.
Other notable features include IP68 dust and water resistance, dual stereo speakers, and a 24-layer liquid cooling system that Vivo says is the largest ever used in an "X Pro" phone. The phone has a black vegan leather back, which aims to differentiate it from glass-backed devices.
Vivo X90 will only be available in Asia. 1 credit
The X90 is about the same size and shares most of the specs with the X90 Pro, including the screen, processor, and fast-charging battery (though there's no wireless charging). The main difference is a slightly more capable camera, with a 12-megapixel portrait camera instead of a 50-megapixel unit and design; The Vivo X90 has a glass back and is available in Breeze Blue and Asteroid Black colors.
Both phones run Vivo's Funtouch OS 13, which is based on Android 13.
Vivo X90 Pro will be available in Asia and Europe, while X90 will only be available in Asian markets.
