Samsung Debuts A Bixby Feature That Creates An AIgenerated Copy Of A User's Voice To Answer Calls

Samsung has announced a new feature for its Bixby mobile assistant that creates an AI-generated copy of the user's voice to receive calls. The Custom Voice Maker lets users record different phrases for Bixby to analyze and create an AI-generated copy of their tone and voice. Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available in Korean on Galaxy S23 series devices.

This feature is designed so you can use your AI-generated voice to answer calls when you can't. For example, if you can't answer a call, a new feature lets you enter a phrase that will be read to the caller in your voice. Samsung plans to make this feature compatible with other Samsung features besides calling in the future.

Samsung also announced that its Bixby Text Call feature, which converts voice calls to typed text, now supports calls in English. The feature, originally launched in Korean last year, allows users to answer calls by typing a message, which Bixby then reads aloud to the caller. Text calls can also transcribe what the caller is saying. This feature can be accessed on Galaxy S23, Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 devices.

Additionally, the company says it gives users the ability to customize Bixby's wake mode as they see fit. The voice assistant can now also play music based on the type of exercise performed in Samsung Health.

"Bixby can now better understand intent and process subsequent requests by understanding context and linking to words previously used in interactions," the company wrote in a blog post. "For example, Bixby users can first start a workout in Samsung Health and then ask Bixby to play the music that best matches that workout by saying, 'Play music for this workout.'

Samsung also announced that it has expanded Bixby's offline capabilities, such as setting a timer, taking a screenshot or turning on the flashlight.
