RCS Messaging, which stands for Rich Communication Services, has changed the game on this front. Let's find out how to like SMS on Android.

You really can. This is not an option with standard SMS/MMS messaging, but the adoption of the RCS messaging standard has allowed many Android smartphones to offer the ability to like text messages.

You must enable RCS messaging to become the preferred text message sender. Most new Android smartphones are compatible with RCS and have it enabled by default. Also, your carrier must support RCS to use it in the standard messaging app for Samsung Galaxy and OnePlus phones. But most carriers around the world now support RCS, and the Google Messages app that usually comes pre-installed on Android phones has completely eliminated the need for carrier support.

Adding likes or other emoji reactions is only a feature of RCS messages. It also offers other features that you may know from other messaging apps, such as read receipts and write requests.

How to enable RCS on Android

You may find that RCS messaging is enabled by default on your device. If you want to check it, you can do it very quickly and easily in your messaging app.

The screenshot above shows the steps in Google Messages, which you may already have on your Android device. The steps are also very similar to the default messaging app on most Android smartphones. Just go to your messaging settings and enable the option for chat features .

By activating the chat function, you can "Like" messages on your Android phone. Here's how it works in Google Messages:

While viewing the text conversation, long press on the message you want to like. This is also known as a long press.
You'll see a pop-up menu of possible answers. Tap thumb emoji .
The emoji will appear below the message. It also appears on the sender's phone.

It's so easy to love texting on Android. If you then view your text conversation in an app that doesn't support RCS messaging, the feedback will appear as a separate message sent by you to the sender. So, in the example above, you'd see replies to posts you enjoyed reading " 👍 6pm ok?"
