5G is taking over smartphones and ultra-high-end smartphone chipsets.
Currently priced at Rs 25,999, the Phantom X is Tecno's flagship device in India. When the Phantom X2 5G goes on sale in India next month, Tecno, a brand known for its budget smartphones, will overcome this limitation by launching a mid-range budget smartphone segment. But the company will not be satisfied with this. The company plans to launch a "more premium smartphone than the Phantom X2 Pro" in India soon.
“We are already planning one or two flagship releases beyond the Phantom X2 and Phantom X2 Pro. You can find out in a few months. Our product is ready,” the CEO of Techno India told BGR India.
“Entire India will switch to 5G by the end of 2023. So once India transitions to 5G, we should have a comprehensive 5G portfolio. So, in our 5G portfolio, we will focus on the ultra-premium price segment, premium and mid-to-high-end segments,” he added. He said.
When asked if Tecno will launch 5G smartphones in the 15K market segment, Talapatra said: “… 10-15K, we plan to introduce 5G smartphones. But there are no plans below 10,000 yet.”
About the launch of foldable smartphones
During our conversation, we also discussed the possibility of Tecno introducing a smartphone with a foldable screen, a product category represented by a growing number of smartphone manufacturers. In response to our question, Talpatra mentioned that the company is currently focusing on the new Phantom X2 series.

During our conversation, a Techno executive said that the company will likely launch the laptop in India in 2023. We are in no rush to publish it. Maybe we'll test it with B2C companies or brands... launch it in some markets. We'll tell you what the answer is, we'll travel all over India.

We will be in a smartwatch. We have already started working on that."
Go from 4G to 5G
Finally, Talpatra also touched on one of the hottest topics in the tech world, which is 5G. Asked how easy or difficult it will be for device manufacturers to push the rollout of 5G in India and how long it will take, Talpatra said the rollout is expected to be fast.
“India has just transitioned to 5G…but 82 million subscribers are already using 5G and we are one of the three largest markets for 5G networks. USA, China and India. So the pace of adaptation is very fast. We expect that in the middle of 2023, if you want to Buying a new phone and the cost of this phone is between 13 thousand and 20 thousand, so the consumer will not buy a fourth-generation phone.
