According to recently released Apple support documents, one of the highest ratings of iOS 16 is due to battery drain.
A feature called "Keyboard Haptics" is optional in iOS 16 and allows users to receive physical feedback through gentle vibrations when each key is pressed to confirm that it has been pressed, such as keyboard sounds. This feature is a welcome addition to the iPhone and is one of the best little new features in iOS 16, especially since similar features have been available on Android devices for years.
"Enabling keyboard haptics can impact your iPhone's battery life," according to an Apple support document released last month. The company didn't provide any further details, so it's unclear how much extra battery life this feature consumes. Power saving mode does not disable haptic feedback, so the only option for users concerned about the potential impact on battery life is to leave this feature disabled.
Any hardware or software feature of the iPhone obviously reduces battery life, but the fact that Apple saw fit to explicitly mention keyboard haptic feedback could indicate that the extra battery life used by the functionality is relatively low.
To turn on haptic feedback on your iPhone's keyboard, open the Settings app, tap Sounds & Haptics → Keyboard Feedback, then turn on Haptic Feedback . The function can be deactivated at any time with the same toggle switch. This feature is available on iPhone 8 and later with iOS 16.
