After a month of beta testing, Apple is now releasing iOS 16.1 to all users. This update brings many features that should be available with the release of iOS 16 in September. Here's what you need to know.

With iOS 16.1, Apple is adding the long-awaited Live Activity feature that lets you stay connected in real time from your lock screen.

As 9to5Mac first revealed, Apple also offers the option to remove the Apple Wallet app. The feature comes as international regulators raise antitrust concerns about Apple Pay. It's not clear whether Apple will add third-party wallets to the iPhone, but users can at least opt out of the wallet app.

Additionally, Apple is now introducing Matter Support , a new smart home connectivity standard that will allow compatible accessories to work together across platforms.

Another feature available with iOS 16 is iCloud Shared Photo Library , a new way for families to seamlessly share photos with a separate iCloud Library that allows up to six users to collaborate.

Finally, iPhone users can finally sign up for Apple Fitness Plus without needing an Apple Watch. Learn more about the iOS 16.1 update here.

Along with iOS 16.1 RC, Apple installs iPadOS 16.1, macOS 13 Ventura, watchOS 9.1 and tvOS 16.1.

BGR will provide the latest updates for these operating systems as we learn more about them throughout the day.
