IPad Air 12.9Inch: Redesigned Camera Unit In Leaked CAD Renders

A CAD leak recently published by 91Mobiles is believed to reveal the design of Apple's upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air, giving a glimpse into the device's aesthetic elements. As expected, these images show the general look of the Air design seen on the fourth and fifth generation models, albeit expanded to accommodate the larger 12.9-inch screen.

A significant design change is seen on the rear camera unit, which now features an elongated, redesigned pill-shaped bump that differs from the single circular cutout of the current iPad Air. This new design looks like the iPhone's rear camera unit

Looking at the front of the tablet, except for the noticeably thicker bezels, the iPad Air is identical to the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It mirrors the design choices of the 10.9-inch iPad Air, which has thicker bezels around the screen than the 11-inch iPad Pro.

The device will be aimed at users who want a tablet larger than the current 10.9-inch iPad Air, but without the advanced features of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, such as Promo technology or the LiDAR scanner. This approach is consistent with Apple's strategy seen in products like the 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch MacBook Air, as well as the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus:

Moving on to the internal specifications of the device, 91Mobiles echoes a report suggesting that the next-generation iPad Air will be powered by an M2 chip, showing Apple's commitment to introducing cutting-edge technology. There are indications that the device is already in production, with rumors suggesting that production will begin in the first quarter of 2024. The expected launch date is set for "early" this year, with a likely candidate opening in March.
