The 14 Best Minecraft Shaders 2023

The 14 Best Minecraft Shaders 2023

What are the best Minecraft shaders? Shaders allow you to instantly improve the look of your Minecraft world, even without a sophisticated RTX graphics card. However, if there are several sandbox mods downloaded and you are not sure, let's start with Minecraft shaders.

One of the best PC games of all time and the absolute king of sandbox games, Minecraft offers incredible versatility that keeps fans and beginners coming back to the game again and again. Although the vanilla game is regularly updated, Minecraft mods, texture packs, resource packs and shaders can completely redefine the game and affect its overall appearance. For example, mods can completely change the game, while Minecraft texture packs and resource packs change the appearance of existing blocks or add new blocks. Meanwhile, Shadow Packs gives you the same gameplay with fancy graphics and effects .

Here are the 14 best Minecraft shaders of 2023 before version 1.20:

Minecraft shaders - the sun sets through the buttes of a badlands biomes, over realistic looking water, with BSL shaders installed

BSL shaders

BSL shaders provide some of the best graphics you can get in Minecraft without breaking your rig. The lighting is warm and inviting, the water is realistic without clashing too much with the surrounding blocks, and there's a noticeable atmosphere everywhere you look. The way the light falls in your Minecraft world also shows some of the effects of turning on RTX with BSL shaders, even on basic, cheap PC setups.

While BSL and SEUS are both very beautiful, BSL is your best bet if you're looking for a slightly more realistic shade.

Best Minecraft shaders: aurora borealis appears in the night sky in Minecraft with Solas shaders installed.

Language switch

Solas Shaders was developed as a fork of BSL Shaders, the successor to Prismarine Shaders. With volumetric clouds and volumetric lights, as well as a mechanism that prevents clouds from "infiltrating" enclosed spaces, Solas Shaders is already a powerful shader package with a small impact on your system and the ability to run on low-end computers for work.

What really stands out among Solas are the beautiful sky effects, including the Northern Lights (as you see above), the Milky Way, and the Ender Nebula. If you are not afraid to go out into the free world after dark, these dimmers will allow you to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Minecraft shaders: Stunning, rippling water flows between two desert coasts in Minecraft with the realistic seus shaders installed

SEUS PTGI

Sonic Ether's incredible shaders, SEUS for short, enhance the realism of your Minecraft, similar to BSL above. However, the latest version of PTGI is a bit brighter than the other shades on this list, giving you a different look. The water effects in SEUS PTGI are also much better, providing clearer water that is easy to see and makes you feel like you're on an exotic vacation.

Soft natural light, rain that illuminates every surface it touches, procedurally generated clouds, and more await you at SEUS PTGI. There are other, less demanding versions of SEUS, including older and updated versions, but while SEUS PTGI is aimed at rendering RTX effects, it can run on low-end graphics cards like the GTX 1650.

Best Minecraft shaders: A cityscape glows bright in the dark and is reflected in the realistic water surrounding it with new Continuum RT shaders equipped

Solid shading

Continuum used to be a shade of Minecraft's Sistine Chapel, but now it's standard realistic graphics. When you install this shader, you get photorealistic lighting effects: color gradients of the sky, clouds and realistic shadows that adjust their shape and angle to the position of the sun. Everything here is first class.

Unfortunately, these results require a powerful setup, but if you want that kind of visual accuracy, it's worth it. The team behind Continuum is working on releases for low-budget configurations with Continuum RT GTX 1080 graphics cards and earlier access. They are also working on a new set of ultra-realistic textures to match the shades. So, if you've always wanted to see what Minecraft would be like in real life, now you can support its development and buy early access packs.

Best Minecraft shaders: A sunset in Minecraft with Unreal shaders installed.

Unreal shadows

Okay, we're cheating here because Unreal Shaders are a combination of shadows and textures that you can mix and match to enhance your Minecraft world to your liking. With three different shader and texture packs, as well as new biomes, immersive sounds and more, Unreal is an easy way to change the look of Minecraft with a single download - you won't even need Optifine.

Best Minecraft shaders: The Sildurs Vibrant Shaders show a bright looking river with realistic looking water.

A living dimer of Sildur

Sildur Vibrant Shaders is another classic, but it still offers a lot for entry-level graphics optimization. At the high end, you can get the Vibrant Shader Pack for Extreme Rigs, which reworks Minecraft's lighting technology to add the most holy ambient light imaginable, beautiful reflections and floral effects. Alternatively, there is an improved default shader that has nice effects and can be adjusted if your setup looks like a potato with jump heads attached. The Sildurs shader mod is always updated and currently supports versions 1.7.10 – 1.19.4.

Best Minecraft shaders: The Kuda shader gives the sky a softer look and the river a deep blue hue.

KUDA shaders

KUDA Minecraft shaders greatly improve natural lighting in Minecraft, but the real highlight of KUDA is the sunlight. Just like the soothing rays of light you seem to get in a few hours of daylight, the KUDA lampshade transforms any landscape into a masterpiece.

It also has an impressive depth of field effect, making it a reliable shader for Minecraft graphics and screenshots of your latest Minecraft builds. KUDA strikes a good balance between delicacy and realism and is gentle on your gear.

Best Minecraft shaders: the Naelegos Cel-shaders mod gives the trees an outline.

Cell shader from Naelego

Add some cartoonish visuals to the action with this Borderlands-inspired phone case. Naelego's expertly designed lampshades incorporate vibrant colors and vibrant contours to mimic the look of classic comics or cartoons. However, there is one big caveat: although this shader is available for version 1.19.4, it is not optimized enough when flying in creative mode.

Best Minecraft shaders: a view of the skyline and trees in the Nostalgia shader during sunset.

nostalgia

Maybe Minecraft's awesome shaders are too far from what Minecraft should be. Maybe you loved textures when shadows were new. The nostalgic touch of Minecraft has a retro feel and many performance improvements and new features. If you're missing the "Super Duper Graphics Pack," this shader unexpectedly has "some similarities," according to the mod's page. We especially love how it looks at dawn and dusk.

Like the other teams and packs on this list, the Nostalgia developers are also working on the RTX-like shadow pack NostalgiaVX, available for version 1.19.4.

Best Minecraft shaders: the Chocopic shader showing a lakefront where the water is crystal clear.

Shader by Chopicic13

Clear graphics with beautiful water effects and bright lights - Minecraft Shadows by Chopicic13 is definitely beautiful. However, one of the main reasons to try this shade is that it comes in different versions depending on your device, from super hot to toaster friendly. The lower limit is not very close, but it is difficult to overcome and has almost no effect on performance. Technically, Chopic is not yet available for the latest version of Minecraft, but it is available in the latest version of Optifine, which is 1.19.2.

Best Minecraft Shaders - The Werrus shader showing a field with lakes and the glare from the sun.

To worry

As many have rightly noted the impressive shading work of the Werrus shader, water effects deserve to be included in this list of the best shaders in Minecraft. The color, soft waves, and true sense of depth are hard to beat, and it works on just about any computer. The light and shadows are more beautiful at night, which makes the encounter with the skeleton archer terrifying. Even better, Werrus is already available for Minecraft 1.19.4, making it one of the few shaders on this list that you can play in the current version of the game.

Best Minecraft shaders - Ebin shader showing a deep blue lake.

Ebin

Ebin Minecraft shaders are inspired by SEUS, although they look very different. The most noticeable change is that the clouds and foliage are incredibly realistic, but there are some small visual improvements everywhere you look. Sure, it's a bit of a burden on your hardware, but can you put a price on Minecraft modding? Ebin is also available for Minecraft 1.19.4.

Sora shaders

This edition of the ProjectLUMA shader is fantastic. The Minecraft Sora shader, like the shader it's based on, has all the great skyboxes and lighting effects you'd expect, but combines them with improved shadows and reflections. It stands out because the water effects are comparable to the Ocean shaders. We think it looks even better in motion, and the other biome upgrades look great too! Shadow of Sora is available for Minecraft 1.19.4.

An open expanse of water in one of the best Minecraft shaders, DrDesten's MCShaders, with a more realistic wave design to the water's surface.

MCShaders by DrDesten

DrDesten's MCShaders shader is much more subtle, most of the time the water is turned into a more realistic surface with more movement, and even underwater things are completely different. In Dr. however, I still can't get soft clouds or soft leaves. So, if you're looking for something that perfectly straddles the line between vanilla Minecraft and the more sophisticated shaders mentioned above, try MCShaders by DrDesten.

How to install Minecraft 1.19 shaders

Setting up and using Minecraft shaders is a fairly simple process. However, before you start installing the shadow package, you need to download and install Forge or Optifine. Please note that they are not always up to date. So your options are limited if you want to use shaders in the latest version of Minecraft Java. You should also make sure that the shader you download is suitable for the same Minecraft Java version you are using.

Since Optifine is not yet available for version 1.20, there are only a few shades that work in the latest version. However, we will let you know as soon as we download Optifine for 1.20.

The Minecraft shaders option for selecting the best shaders in Minecraft Java edition

Follow these steps to install Minecraft shaders in the Java version:

If necessary, download additional software such as Optifine. Requirements are listed on the shader download page.

  • Download the shader package.
  • Place the shader pack zip file in the Minecraft > .shaderpacks folder.
  • The .shaderpacks should be in the AppData folder. If you can't find it, type %appdata% in the search bar and find it in the .minecraft folder.
  • In the Minecraft launcher, select Optifine or the version of Minecraft you need to run the shader and click Play.
  • Upload your world or create a new one and go to Options - Video Options - Shaders. Then make sure the desired shade is selected as shown in the image above.
