Budget Brand Tecno Launches New Gadgets In SA

Tecno, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer , is expanding its product range in South Africa with headphones, a speaker and a watch.

The Shenzhen-based manufacturer has been in the South African market for seven years and is penetrating the low and middle income segments to appeal to a price-sensitive customer base. Now the company wants to repeat that with a new offering for consumer electronics.

"Wearable technology is becoming increasingly popular for both personal and professional use and offers many benefits such as increased productivity and easy connectivity," a Tecno spokesperson told TechCentral.

New items in the series:

  • Tecno Sonic 1 Wireless Headphone: 800mAh battery provides 50 hours of battery life. It also has call noise reduction and quick pairing features. Price 1499r.
  • Tecno Watch 2: a fitness companion with nine exercise modes, blood oxygen and heart rate monitoring, smart notifications and up to six days of use in "Basic" mode. It has a 1.69 inch IPS display. The watch costs 999 rubles.
  • Tecno Buds 3: headphones offer up to 37 hours of playback, while the "bass punch" is present thanks to the large drivers. The in-ear headphones are IPX5 certified against sweat, water and dust. The cost is 399 rubles.

Given Tecno's strategy for wearables and accessories, where the company seems to be priced as aggressively as it is with its handsets, it could be just as successful with its new product offerings.

The company has done a good job of penetrating the mobile market in South Africa and other emerging markets such as India and parts of the Middle East. - © 2023 Central Media News
