Oppo, Vivo, Realme To Have Indian CEO, CTO? Big Rule Change For Chinese Mobile Phone Companies
The Center introduced a major rule change for Chinese phones and cellphone makers like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme, which are popular in India for their affordability. However, these companies now have to operate under Indian regulations.
According to a report in the Economic Times, according to the Centre's new guidelines for Chinese mobile phone companies, they must integrate Indian partners into their local operations if they want to continue manufacturing in India.
Also in Chinese mobile companies like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Realme etc., Indians hold top positions in their companies like Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFOs), Chief Technical Officer (CTOs) etc.
The Economic Times also reports that the Center has asked Chinese mobile phone companies to partner with Indian companies to increase local production and hire Indian subcontractors, as some of these companies have Chinese distributors.
Chinese companies have also been asked to enforce the law and prevent tax evasion in India, executives said, Economic Times quoted executives as saying. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has communicated these new rules and concerns to companies like Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Xiaomi.
These companies have also received strict warnings against tax evasion and have to comply with all Indian laws and regulations. With these new regulations, the Center aims to make India a key export and manufacturing location and attract local talent and businesses.
While Oppo and Vivo have yet to make any official comments on the matter, Xiaomi said that all local management positions at the Chinese company are currently being filled by Indians and that the company is one of the first to join the Make in India initiative. :
