A continued look at software : After much anticipation, the White House last week released its National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2023, the Federal Government's Information Security Strategy. And until its contents are approved by Congress, its real teeth continue to show. However, companies have much to gain from the strategy as the focus shifts from small vendors and individuals to big players, especially Big Tech. Who will pay for it? - Speaking of software... Today's corporate legal departments face a difficult combination: the need to invest in technology tools that can help them manage the unprecedented volume and complexity of data, and shrinking budgets. According to the 2023 State of the Corporate Legal Industry Report, these debates will continue in 2023 and beyond. The report, produced by eDiscovery and data management solutions company IPRO and the Association of Certified eDiscovery Professionals, is based on a survey of 126 corporate lawyers surveyed in December. Dean Brown, IPRO's chief executive, told law.com's Cassandre Quair that many of the findings were not unexpected, but rather confirmed trends he had seen in recent years. And solving these problems will require legal departments to create business plans to present to CFOs to justify the costs, which is not easy. "He still sees litigation as a business, which is a little scary because there are things in the law that you can't quantify: risk, regulatory pressure, that kind of thing," Brown explained.
