We Have The Vivo X90 Pro, One Of 2023s Most Interesting Android Phones

The Vivo X90 Pro comes prepping for our review. If you're not familiar with Vivo, it's part of the same tech empire as OnePlus, Realme, and Oppo, but they're not as closely related as the three in terms of software, design, and partnerships. We're excited about Vivo's partnership with Zeiss, as well as the wider global launch of the X90 Pro.

Vivo and Zeiss have been collaborating on smartphone cameras since 2020, with the Vivo X60 Pro and X60 Pro Plus being the first devices to emerge from the partnership. According to Zeiss, the two work together to ensure quality throughout the delivery process, not just a software component or feature. Zeiss doesn't make cameras, but does camera optics, so in contrast to partnerships like OnePlus and Hasselblad, whose focus is on software.

All of this makes the X90 Pro exciting, so we're excited to get to reviewing this phone soon. While we're at it, we wanted to show you this impressive design.

Check out the impressive camera of the Vivo X90 Pro

The star of the show is the 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 camera with a 1-inch sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS). Elsewhere in the camera module is a 50MP portrait camera and a 12MP wide-angle camera. Everything is powered by a custom Vivo V2 chip with Zeiss T* coating on the lens.

Zeiss has partnered with Vivo on software, with the newly calibrated Zeiss Natural Color 2.0 bringing more authentic colors to your photos as well as some fancy camera features. Zeiss Miniature Effect makes normal-scale scenes look miniature, like a tilt shift filter, while Cine-Flair Portrait smartly adds highlights to portrait shots.

Especially? Vivo talked about the X90 Pro's night mode capabilities, highlighting its 'Extreme Night Focus' technology for precise focusing in low light, Super Moon mode and AI Night Vision for RAW photos.

Otherwise, Vivo X90 Pro

While we haven't tried this phone in a while, we do have it, so we can talk about the design. it's big It's 9.3mm thick and weighs 215g, and the camera module protrudes a few millimeters from the back of the phone. The case is curved and the 6.78-inch display fits snugly inside, so it doesn't feel too bulky. But that's still a handful.

The camera module is a big circle with Zeiss branding on the side, but Vivo has made the unusual decision to write "Extreme Imagination" on the metal strip underneath it along the body of the phone. It adds absolutely nothing to the design, amounts to nothing and sadly detracts from the look. Another inscription on the top of the phone, this time "Professional Photography". It's been a mainstay of the Vivo X series of phones for a while, but that doesn't make it any less meaningful.

The back is covered in vegan leather and is available in only one color – the legendary black. It's a shame Vivo didn't look back at Oppo phones like the Find X2 Pro with its bright orange skin instead opting for a dull, dull black. Inside is a 4,870mAh battery with 120W wired and wireless charging.

Vivo turned to MediaTek to power the X90 Pro, opting for the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Announced in late 2022, this powerful chip rivals Qualcomm's best products and is one of the first phones to use it.

What about the X90 and X90 Pro Plus?

We focused on the Vivo X90 Pro, but it's just one of the company's newest X series devices. The Vivo X90 joins the standard Vivo X90. It has the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1260 x 2800 resolution and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor, but there are a few changes that make it less appealing.

On the back is a 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 main camera with OIS, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel portrait camera. Zeiss co-developed the imaging system and supplied the T* coating on the optics, as well as the integrated Vivo V2 chip. The 32-megapixel selfie camera is the same as the Pro model, but the battery capacity is slightly smaller and there's no wireless charging. Vivo is also making an X90 Pro Plus model, but it won't be releasing globally.

Vivo X90 Pro is coming soon

Until this news was written, Vivo had not disclosed the price for the X90 series. However, the company has provided information on where the phone will be sold, and the good news is that the X90 Pro will be launched in Europe. Unfortunately, it is not certain which locations are in Europe. Otherwise, both it and the X90 will launch in Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Thailand and Malaysia.

The Vivo X90 Pro is on our table and ready to be tested in the near future. We are eager to know what Vivo and Zeiss have to offer.
