Minecraft Updates Marketplace Content

Mojang Studios releases a new Minecraft Marketplace theatrical trailer, showing off some premium Minecraft DLC offerings.

Mojang Studios has released a new cinematic trailer for Minecraft , highlighting the abundance of premium DLC available in the Minecraft Marketplace. The Minecraft Marketplace has become the center of serious controversy within the Minecraft community, in part due to mistrust of monetizing digital content. However, Mojang continues to push forward with strong Minecraft Marketplace support with no signs of slowing down in the future.

The Minecraft Marketplace, known as the Minecraft Store on PlayStation, first launched in 2017. The Marketplace allows Minecraft content creators to partner with Mojang to release skins, texture packs, custom worlds, minigames and more, with revenue split between creator and publisher. The market has seen significant support in the years since, although since around 2020 the focus has shifted to content rather than functionality.

A new Mojang trailer puts Minecraft Marketplace back in the spotlight. The trailer showcases a number of popular DLC packs for Minecraft that Bedrock Edition players can purchase. It's unclear if the worlds are new or if Mojang is just showing off the cool content the creators have provided. Either way, it's good for Mojang to support community builders, even if it profits heavily from this practice.

Worlds featured in the trailer include Pixelbiesters Advanced Dragons 2, Cyclone's Ultra Cute Texture Pack, Spark Universe's SpongeBob SquarePants, Noxcrews City Living, Morph Into Mobs. By Pickaxe Studios and WDW Magic Kingdom Adventure by Everbloom Games. They are one of the biggest creators of Minecraft , many of whom have been involved in major licensing projects. Mojang takes this partnership very seriously.

It bears repeating that the Minecraft Marketplace remains a controversial topic in the Minecraft community. While few disagree with the idea of creators getting paid for their work, given what the game once stood for, the Minecraft Marketplace still represents the opposite. Minecraft didn't have DLC before. It was easily available on PC and was largely supported by mods made for free by passionate creators. Some would say that the Minecraft Marketplace has hurt the modding scene and degraded the overall Minecraft experience.

While opinions are certainly divided on the Minecraft Marketplace, that won't slow down what has become an incredibly profitable side of Minecraft for Xbox. As long as there are content creators willing to work for Minecraft and marketing partners like SpongeBob SquarePants and Disney willing to license their content for DLC, the Minecraft market will thrive.

Minecraft is now available on mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One and older platforms.
