This is getting ridiculous. Realme has just launched its new Realme GT Neo 5 smartphone which supports up to 240W fast charging . According to GSMArena , this will make it the fastest charger on the market, faster than the 210W charging offered by the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition and almost 100W faster than the 150W charging offered by OnePlus devices such as the 10T. 240W complies with the latest USB power specifications announced in 2021 by USB-IF.

From a practical point of view, we are actually experiencing diminishing returns from such powerful fast charging in smartphones. Realme claims that the GT Neo 5's 4,600mAh battery can be charged to 100 percent in nine and a half minutes thanks to 240W charging. That's pretty fast, but basically the same as what Redmi said 210W charging on the Note 12 Discovery Edition was possible for last year (despite a slightly smaller 4300mAh battery). If you want to partially charge, the new Realme phone can reach 20 percent in 80 seconds and 50 percent in four minutes.

Here's a step-by-step demo of the RealMe GT Neo 5 fast charging in action:

Realme is owned by BBK Electronics, the same company that owns Oppo and OnePlus. At Mobile World Congress 2022, Oppo showcased a 240W fast charging solution that will reportedly be used in this new Realme phone. 240W fast charging has not yet appeared on commercial phones from Oppo or OnePlus.

So far, the Realme GT Neo 5 has only been announced for the Chinese market, where it will be sold with several different charging configurations. The 240W version is, as you might expect, the more expensive of the two. Prices start at 3,199 Yuan (about $472) for 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There's also a "slower" 150-watt charging option, though interestingly the 5,000 mAh battery is slightly larger. The 150W model starts at 2,599 Yuan (about $383) with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Apart from fast charging, the GT Neo 5 also has attractive RGB lighting on the back. It doesn't cover the entire back like the interface on the Nothing Phone 1, but the small square to the right of the camera serves the same purpose as the notification light and can also glow red to alert you when the phone's battery is running low. . short.

Otherwise, the GT Neo 5 is a pretty standard Android device. It has a 6.74-inch 1240p 144Hz OLED display and is powered by last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 flagship processor. . 8 megapixels, while the macro sensor is limited to just 2 megapixels. It is available in white, black or purple.

No word yet on international availability or pricing, but Mobile World Congress Barcelona is just a few weeks away and I wouldn't be surprised if we hear more. However, based on Realme's previous releases, I didn't expect this phone to be officially launched in North America.
