Where To Get Your Techno Music Experience In Paris
Published:
Techno music is a musical genre characterized by electronic rhythms and songs, often without lyrics. Despite the wide variety of techno music available these days, my favorite is melodic techno. This type of music, as the name suggests, often includes "melodic" tones and melodies that are highly recognizable and easy to remember. Popular melodic techno music artists include Tales of You, Biceps, and Monolink.
Since I moved to Paris in August 2022 to Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris 1 University, I have been looking for good techno clubs and festivals in my new city with a particular focus on melodic techno. In this article, I'll introduce you to some of the most popular techno clubs in Paris and give you my take on them.
1. Zenith Paris
Located in the middle of the green park of La Villette , in the 19th arrondissement, the Zénith is a great event venue that hosts several concerts each year. I went to this club to see Biceps, my favorite songwriter and techno artist. Although the concert hall could hold about 700 spectators, it did not feel crowded or crowded. The special effects used during the show were very good and I had a great time.
2. Carmen
It's one of the "real" techno clubs I've been to. Located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris , close to the Moulin Rouge and generally on the more "alternative" side of Paris comparable to London's Soho. This club has two floors; One of them is focused on "pure" techno without melodies, sometimes a bit repetitive. On the contrary, techno plays on the ground floor with electronic and often melodic music depending on the parties and the performers.
What I like the most about this club is the interior decoration (see photo below). The main hall feels like a party in an elite castle club. At the same time, the red light transforms the room into a very cool "Berlin technoclub" atmosphere, reminiscent of Berghain.
3. Mirage Paris
Finally, my favorite is Mirage Paris, which is in the 8th arrondissement of Paris , near the Arc de Triomphe, next to the Champs Elysées. This club is known for hosting special DJs from Thursday to Sunday. This means that you will often be surrounded by quite a few 20-25 year olds who are not only clubbers but DJs first and foremost. Create a great atmosphere in the club when you meet the DJ while everyone dances and enjoys the "art" of techno music.
The club itself has a lot of Japanese decoration and uses red and blue lights like Le Carmen. Unlike the Carmen, however, the Mirage Paris offers a much more intimate setting as it cannot accommodate more than 80 to 100 people. So every time I go to this club it feels more like a private concert than a big club experience.
