Minecraft Java And Bedrock What You Need To Know
Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock were released for PC in 2022, making the two main versions of the game co-launchers. But while the two games happily coexist as one, the differences between them can be a little confusing; in fact, maybe more. If they are already together, why do we need two versions?
One of the most popular PC games of all time, Minecraft has come in many forms: Xbox Edition, Nintendo Switch Edition, Pocket Edition, Legacy Console Edition, Java, Bedrock... it's hard to keep up with them. It's more about the merging of console versions over the years and the complications of Windows 1o.
First, Minecraft Java is the official name of the original version of the popular creative game created by Mojang in 2009. You buy this version from Mojang's website, although it's also now available through PC Game Pass. Anyway, this only works on PC. Minecraft Bedrock is a remake of the game created by Microsoft in 2017, replacing and merging the console, mobile (formerly known as Pocket Edition), and Windows 10 store versions of the game.
This means that Bedrock is available on different platforms and we as PC gamers have no choice as we can choose any of them. Thanks to the recently released Minecraft launcher, we can manage both setups in one convenient place. However, there are more differences than just the platforms the respective versions of Minecraft run on, so let's dig a little deeper.
Minecraft Bedrock and Java Version
A new Minecraft launcher for PC was released in summer 2022, giving you a central home where you can access all Minecraft games: not just the Java and Bedrock versions, but the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft.Legends. Minecraft gave many players who bought one edition before merging with the other.
Although Mojang Studios has favored parity between the two versions in recent updates, there are still some significant differences between the two versions, so if you're familiar with the popular sandbox and wondering which one to play, or just wondering what to play for the younger version, we're here to help. here we are.
java version of minecraft
Minecraft Java Edition is the original version of the game first developed by Notch in 2009. Like the original version of the game, the Java Edition has what many people consider to be excellent features, which is why fans of the Bedrock Edition have been calling for full equality for years.
Minecraft Edition base
Meanwhile, the Bedrock version is a bit more complicated. Combining all the console versions and the Windows 10 version, Bedrock is surprisingly more widespread as it can be played on consoles, mobile and PC. If you play Minecraft on any portable gaming device, you'll be playing the Bedrock version. Due to the original games and the different teams working on these different features, there will likely always be two versions of the game, or at least for the foreseeable future.
Differences between Minecraft Java and Bedrock
So now you can play on both Java Launcher PC and Bedrock. What is the difference? And which one should you play? It's an important decision because they look and feel completely different, and they both can't fit into their own worlds.
Microsoft has created a helpful document detailing the differences between the versions, but in general, the main differences between Minecraft Java and Bedrock are:
- World spawn (although since 1.18+ the worlds are pretty much the same)
- Redstone behavior
- Commands and cheats for Minecraft console.
- Mods and maps for Minecraft.
- Minecraft skin customization
- multiplayer minecraft
- User interface and HUD
- Hardcore and spectator modes are not available in Bedrock.
- Backend performance differences
- Ray tracing can only be experienced at Bedrock
So what should you play?
The answer to this question is largely up to you. One of the biggest differences for me personally is the user interface. Try both to see which you like best.
Then comes the multiplayer mode. Minecraft is undoubtedly one of the best co-op games out there thanks to the many game options, maps and modes available to you. However, as we'll discuss below, you'll need to be using the same version as your friends, so that may influence your decision.
If you primarily play single player, then mods may be important to you. Mods are very important as different versions of Minecraft look. Java Edition has a long history of extensive and creative Minecraft maps, mods, and texture packs that you can download for free. Make sure you trust the source when downloading mods or installing Minecraft Forge for the Java version.
The Bedrock edition still allows you to use mods and texture packs, but they are purchased or downloaded from the Minecraft Marketplace. Some think it's better because they're all made by trusted Minecraft creators and teams, and buying them is a surefire way to support the community. This also applies to skin customization, as skin packs can be purchased from the Marketplace for the Bedrock version, and unique skin designs can be downloaded online or even created yourself in .png format for the Java version. . .
Multiplayer Minecraft Java or Bedrock
As mentioned above, multiplayer is handled differently in the two versions of Minecraft. The most important thing to know if you plan to mine and build with your friends is that you and everyone you want to play Minecraft with should be using the same co-op version. This means that Java players can only play with other Java players, and the same goes for Bedrock.
You must be part of a server to play Java Edition with friends. There's a long list of Minecraft multiplayer servers you want, or you can host your own from Minecraft Hosting or Minecraft Realms, whether you're hoping to become the next Hypixel or just using it as a playground for you and a few mates.
In the Bedrock version, multiplayer servers such as Mineplex and Cubecraft can be accessed from the main menu in Standard mode, no download required. Before starting the game, just go to the servers tab. To play with friends you need Minecraft Realms, (eg Java hosting) one person will have to pay and others can join for free. Still, while Realms has plans for both Java and Bedrock, they are different.
