Coachella Lineup 2023: Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK And Frank Ocean Will Headline
Rejoice, music lovers. The Coachella 2023 lineup is here and it could be the most diverse yet.
The two-week festival will be held from April 14-16 and April 21-23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK and the previously announced Frank Ocean will headline.
Other artists included in Tuesday's lineup include Becky G, Björk, Fisher, Chromeo, Blondie, Calvin Harris, Charli XCX, MUNA and more.
The poster includes many historical novelties. Bad Bunny, Spotify's most followed artist of 2022, will be the festival's first Latin American artist, while BLACKPINK will be the first K-pop group on the list.
Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK performed at the 2019 festival.
Ocean was announced to headline the 2020 festival, which was originally rescheduled from April to October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A few months later, it was pushed back to April 2021 and then pushed back to 2022. Event creator Paul Tollett told the Los Angeles Times that in 2021, Ocean would perform in 2023.
The singer-songwriter and rapper has written songs for Beyoncé, John Legend, Justin Bieber and more. In the previous decade, Ocean released his first album with Channel Orange in 2012 and Blonde in 2016. She has not released any new material since her 2020 singles "Dear April" and "Cayendo" and performed an unreleased song on Beats 1 radio show "Blonded Radio" in 2021.
Several other performers from this year's line-up are returning to the desert stage. Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk was the festival's first female headliner in 2002 and returned in 2007. Gorillaz were also the headliners in 2010. Last year's headliner, Billie Eilish Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." he sang his song. He is also joined by Australian DJ Flume in his performance with Damon Albarn.
An interesting name on Friday's lineup is Blondie, the New York band that formed in 1974 and played punk rock clubs like Max's Kansas City and CBGB's. The group flourished in the '70s, incorporating pop, disco and new wave into songs such as "Heart of Glass", "Call Me" and "The Tide is High". Blondie disbanded in 1982 and reunited in 1997. The current lineup includes original singer Debbie Harry, guitarist Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burke. In 2022, former Sex Pistols bassist Glenn Matlock joined the band.
The festival returned last year with headliners Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. Yeh, formerly known as Kanye West, was announced, but the rapper left a few days ago and was replaced by Swedish House Mafia with The Weeknd.
Some of the highlights of the 2022 festival include country star Shania Twain on the first weekend and Lizzo on the second weekend, Arcade Fire performing in the Mojave tent, German techno group Meute, local group Giselle Woo and former headliner Boingo Night Oingo. Stiles was the one who introduced Danny. Elfman performs rock and film performances accompanied by an orchestra.
