This Flagship Phone From Tecno Has A Retractable RearCamera
Tecno, a relatively unknown smartphone brand, has just released a phone with a retractable camera lens on the back, similar to pocket cameras of the time. Called the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro, the phone offers a 50MP vertical camera with a fairly wide f/1.49 aperture, a 65mm lens and a 1/1.3-inch camera sensor at the bottom.
Although Tecno calls it a portrait camera, it offers a 2.5x hybrid zoom, but no optical image stabilization array at the bottom. However, Tecno says that the larger sensor size, larger aperture and higher pixel density allow the entire system to collect more light and create bokeh in photos. Tecno is not the first brand with retractable camera technology.
Oppo has seen a functional pop-up camera module over a year ago, but hasn't released it on a conventional phone. Tecno brings Oppo to the market and with a rather new approach. The only concern is that, like the pop-up selfie cameras on phones like the OnePlus 8 Pro, the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro's pop-up camera will be a repair nightmare with all the moving parts underneath. SlashGear reached out to Tecno for more clarity on the functionality of the canceled camera technology.
Interestingly, the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is not a trick machine. The 50MP vertical pop-up camera is supported by a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera. For selfie activities, Tecno has equipped its flagship with a 32-megapixel front camera. On the front is a 6.8-inch curved OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a circular bezel at the top.
Tecno has equipped its latest offering with MediaTek's Dimension 9000 processor, an octa-core SoC based on a 4nm process. It has a tri-cluster architecture with one ARM Cortex-X2 core for heavy duty, three ARM Cortex-A710 cores and four ARM Cortex-A510 cores for light operations. The MediaTek chipset is paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
Backing it up is a pretty powerful 5160mAh battery that offers 45W fast charging However, there is no mention of wireless charging support Tecno offers the Stardust Gray Phantom X2 Pro and a special Mars Orange edition with faux leather texture. Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is priced at SAR 3499, which is around $930 based on current currency conversion rates. However, given the company's focus on Asia, Africa and Europe, this stylish phone won't be hitting US store shelves anytime soon.
