Tecno Phantom X2 And X2 Pro First Impressions: Potential To Be Game Changers
Tecno, a subsidiary of Transition Holdings, has launched the new Phantom X2, X2 Pro and X2 Pro 5G Eco-Friendly Edition smartphones at its global launch event in Dubai. The Eco Edition is a special edition of the Phantom X2 Pro with an eco-friendly back cover made from recycled materials harvested from the ocean. The X2 and X2 Pro phones are the company's flagship offerings that offer several upgrades over the original Phantom X model that was launched in India in April. The Phantom X2 series smartphones are similar, but the Pro model has better imaging capabilities than the vanilla X2, at least on paper.
The India price of the Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro has not been announced yet, but the phones are expected to enter the country early this month. However, here are my first impressions of the Phantom X2 and X2 Pro after unpacking and spending time with the smartphone at events.
Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro: Unboxing
The devices come in a flat, square box, with the phone, a USB Type-A to C cable, a 45W fast charger, a wired headset with a Type-C connector, a SIM card ejector and a comprehensive documentation package that is fully reusable. .
First impressions of the Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro
In terms of design, the Phantom X2 and X2 Pro are not much different from each other. Both devices have curved screens with a 3.5D moon crater design. The latter adds texture to the back cover of the phone which looks premium and feels good in the hand. The design is also tamper and fingerprint resistant. At the front, the edges of the headphones taper to the sides, giving a smooth curve and a comfortable grip. The phones have a volume rocker and power button on the bottom right, a USB Type-C port sits on the bottom between the speaker grill and the SIM ejection tray, which houses two nano SIM card slots. The smartphone does not have a microSD card slot for additional memory expansion. As for color options, the vanilla model is available in Stardust Gray and Moonlight Silver , while the Pro version can be purchased in Mars Orange (made from recycled plastic ) and Stardust Gray.
On the back of the smartphone is a camera island with huge sensors and an LED flash. The Pro model has an orange ring around the main sensor that extends slightly to provide images at 2.5x zoom. This makes it the "world's first smartphone" with a retractable camera module. The unit takes a second or two to remove, and according to the company, it is dustproof and can withstand even small drops. However, the phone does not have an IP rating and it is not yet known how many stress cycles the sensor can withstand. For added security, the fingerprint reader is placed under the large perforated screen of the Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro.
However, the Tecno Phantom X2 series has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels), 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. The P3 supports a wide color gamut, 8+2-bit display, CNC mid-frame, military-grade anti-reflective glass and 36-month TUV SUD warranty. The phones also feature Corning Gorilla Glass protection from accidental drops. I couldn't test the phone's AMOLED panel outdoors in sunlight, but the panel looks great indoors. It is responsive and offers good viewing angles. Additionally, the screen can stay fixed at a 120Hz/60Hz refresh rate or adjust based on the content on the screen to save battery life.
The phones are powered by MediaTek's flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, which has a 4nm manufacturing process and supports 5G. This SoC is expected to offer exceptional power efficiency and an incredibly smooth user experience. While the Dimensity 9000 is a capable chipset, I would like to test it on the Tecno Phantom X2 and C2 Pro and see how well it performs in daily use and gaming. Smartphones have a vapor chamber cooling system to control their thermal performance under heavy load. In terms of configuration, Tecno Phantom X2 comes with 8GB RAM + 256GB USB 3.1 flash drive, while Tecno Phantom X2 Pro comes with 12GB RAM + 256GB USB 3.1 flash drive. 256GB storage. As mentioned earlier, the storage is not expandable, but the RAM can be expanded up to 5GB using part of the phone's memory.
Tecno Phantom X2 has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 64 MP (RGBW) main sensor with OIS, f/1.6 aperture, LED flash, 7th generation IMAGIQ 790 and 590 AI fifth generation APU processor. It is paired with a secondary 13MP lens and a 2MP sensor. On the other hand, Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has a 50 MP main sensor with 7P lens for noise reduction, 7th generation IMAGIQ 790 ISP processor, 5th generation APU 590 AI processor and quad-core LED. The phone has a large 13MP sensor and a 50MP portrait lens, with a relatively large 1/2.7-inch sensor and 1.28µm pixel size. The X2 Pro lens extends/slides in from the back to provide an f/1.49 aperture, 65mm focal length and 18.9cm depth of field with 2.5x zoom. The register makes a small noise and takes a few seconds to respond. As for quality, the ambient light controlled by Techno was good, but it will be interesting to see how the cameras perform in different lighting conditions.
For selfies and video calls, the phones have a 32MP punch-hole camera. On the software side, the Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro both run on HiOS 12.0 based on Android 12. Although the operating system is a bit outdated, the good thing is that the company has partnered with Google for updates, software and phones. Android 13 . Update via OTA. The phones are powered by a powerful 5160mAh battery with 45W fast charging, the fast charger is designed to charge from 0-54% in 20 minutes and 100% in 60 minutes. In terms of connectivity, the Phantom X2 series offers 5G, 4G LTE, Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and more.
The phones are available only in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the starting price is around Rs 59,200 . However , in an interview with 91Mobiles, Techno India CEO Arith Thalapatra said that the Techno Phantom X2 series will be very affordable in India. Stay with 91mobile for Tecno Phantom X2 and X2 Pro review.
