Channel Tres Drops Groovy Single ‘6am
Sheldon Young, better known behind cymbals as Channel Tres, is known for fusing Detroit techno with the silky sounds of Chicago house and West Coast rap to create his own unique style of Compton house. On November 9, the artist released "6am".
“I wanted to push funk music further,” says Young. “It's inspired by my travels and things I've been through. It is a motivational song about struggle and hard work. for people who get off the 6am shift, start the 6am shift or maybe are in the studio until 6am or an early commute; It's one of those songs that aim to motivate you for life, but in the context of a party."
The song impresses with its smooth vocals, dark and menacing sounds, a great Motown melody and a touch of French flair. Next would be his album Real Cultural Sh*t Young's Proper Introduction to Compton House. According to Young, the album was inspired by creating culture, whether in the studio with people or simply with others. "I remember growing up in Compton as a kid and my friends and I created our own culture," he says. “We had our snake, we had ours. When I was doing this project, I kept saying in the studio, "Man, this is real culture!" Man, that's what I'm doing now.” It's about capturing moments in my life and doing things with a group of people and having synergy…it's a culture now.
Young has toured the world with artists such as Robin, Vince Staples, Disclosure and Toro y Moi. He has also directed Apple commercials, HBO series, fashion shows in Paris and major motion pictures. According to the artist, he considered himself a producer when he was only 12 years old. He started making music through a game called Music Generator on the PlayStation. It was then that he played his first stroke, which he says "came natural to him". “I love buttons and really liked the studio stuff,” he says. "It interested me as a child and it still interests me today."
The Compton House Maven resumed his career in 2018. "I think music starts to spread all over the world, and then as I make things and keep making records for other people, people start seeing me differently in the areas" Young says. “In my live show, I'm more interested in costumes and different productions. I am growing to the point where I am better able to implement my ideas. I feel like people are starting to realize that this is something to invest in for the long term. I'll be there for a while. I won't be there for a moment."
